Keep Gabbert, draft a QB, draft OL, draft LB (draft a TE), and can Tomsula.

All the above B I N G O!!!!

I would add DE/OLB or DE/NTs on the top of this list. Our front seven isn't very good at all. Hopefully bow can get healthy, after that, we got issues.

draft a big take on two olinemen type DT
This. Exept sign proven high priced C and G in Free agency. We have the cap space and Baalke's track record drafting OLinemen is absolutely awful. And hopefully AD will be back.

Don't want Ad back. Can't trust him. If he comes back we should trade him.

Why? Because he was having prolonged concussion symptoms and wanted to recover properly. He's worth more to us than a 5th round pick (at best).

He is a decent, not spectacular, run blocker. Pass protection is not good. He left the team, he could have gone through recovery with the team if he had chosen too. I don't trust his decision making. What if he gets hit in the head and quits again? Why do you think he will come back and play at a high level? How often does that happen?

IMO the best option for the team was that he retired (I think Baakle probably talked him into it) because if he and doctors thought he couldn't/Shouldn't have played they would have had to put him on IR and paid him for the entire year and he'd be that much closer to freee agency. Just a hunch.

I never thought AD was an issue needing replacement. Maybe I missed some of his issues in pass pro or run blocking. I did like the attitude he brought to the o line. But on the other hand I don't think he will come back and be issue free. If whatever he was going through was bad enough for him to take a year off, I am not sure anybody can move past that. I would be really surprised if he can come back at all or if he does make it through a season.

Confused Tomsula Meme

This must have been when the planes were flying over.

What was the ruling on the Patton near save at the goal line on a punt? The ball crossed the plane of the goal line, Patton threw it back in. Touches a CHI player. Could that have been a TD if recovered? Had to step away during the game. TIA

No, by Patton being the first to touch it it that means it is an "illegal touch". Once the Bear player touched it the most we could have gotten was a safety.

If you are any team winning is all that matters.

Ok.

I am assuming that you are one of those guys that wants the team to lose to improve our draft status and above all else get Tomsula out of here. Let me be as transparent about this as I can be. I don't want Tomsula here any more than the next person but anybody that believes whether we lose out or win out will make a deciding difference is simply kidding themselves.

The fact is Jed pushed a championship caliber coach out of the organization last year then put all his chips in the Tomsula basket. Then the team had one of the most tumultuous off seasons in recent NFL memory. Jed has already taken a massive amount of heat for putting Tomsula in his position so what does he have to lose at this point? Don't you think he is just itching to prove to everybody that he was right all along. He is going to give Tomsula every chance to be successful. I believe we are stuck with him win or lose for at least one more season. So at this point I'd rather win out and carry that momentum into the off season.

Finishing as a 4 win team only confirms one thing that we are bad all over the place. It confirms that there is a lot of holes on this team and one early draft pick next year doesn't fix the problem. Especially when the 5th pick overall is no more assured NFL success than the 35th pick.

Winning out will confirm something else all together. It would mean that this young team that we all hoped would succeed is doing just that. It would mean the youngsters are developing into the players we all hoped they would be and we are still that close to competing again. I don't know about you but I want that confirmation. I want to go into free agency with a young team that just won 5 games in a row to close out the season and be an attractive landing spot for good players with that mountain of cap space that we will have. I want to go into the 2016 season on a 5 win streak with all that confidence. Which for a young team is everything . So I'll say it again, winning is all that matters.

Good post. To be honest, about 4 weeks ago I was in the "tank for a better draft spot" camp. Now, after seeing Gabbert build rhythm with anyone who was plugged in (e.g., one week Anquan is out, another week Celek is Out, another week Mcdonald is out), and after seeing our youngsters make flash plays -- particularly in the secondary -- an 8-8 season this year would feel exponentially better than an 8-8 last year when you contextualize what happened this offseason.

Plus, IF we win more games than expected, it corresponds to having less holes than we expected.
I don't want SF be a 4 win team with 10 holes. I want for SF to be an 8 win team with only a couple of holes to fill.

Yeah we need to fill those holes

Winning a few more games doesn't 'close holes.' These team has many, many holes that need to be filled by the draft/FA.

If there many many holes we wouldn't have any wins

Oh really? So 4-8 means just a few holes? Being non-competitive in 6 games= not many holes? I'm curious, what do you think the holes are on this team?

Someone really needs to make a pic of Tomsula looking like Ron Jeremy with the slogan "Fillin' holes" in the background.

Lol I remember seeing this right after the stupid challenge he made. Then pausing the game to stop and laugh.

Why weren't we competitive in 6 games? We filled a big hole at QB. Once we got the QB, the loss to SEA was a brain fart due to Rawls.

Believe me I agree with your insight and understand that winning is the currency for which NFL trades in and careers are determined by this. This is a team despite the off season and York/Harbaugh drama that still has much upside.
On the winning is everything I will still have to agree to disagree. I hate any team tanking for any reason but if you give it all you got and lose then you have a much better chance of becoming a winner. But if you cheat, take short cuts or become robots then what is the value of that win.
lol Cutler. How the hell did he direct his receiver like he knows what he's doing, then threw the ball straight to Lemonier.

Bad defense had a large part in those other games as well. Steelers game? The Rams put up 27 on us. End of the Giants game. Nearly the end of the Ravens game. I don't know that Gabbert is the QB of the future for this team. It's not like the offense is good now. They still struggle to get into rhythm. Improved from Kap, yes, for sure.
