They both aren't very well and its a system wide problem.

Lets not go nuts over 15/25 for 185 yards. Sure there were some drops but its not like he was great.

The second TD pass was nice.

Really too high? It hit him in BOTH of his hands....in stride between the safety and cover guy...I am not a fan I Vance McDonald. I wasn't surprised that he dropped it.

All Kap had was that throw today...nothing to write home about, but too high? C'mon man!

They are replaying it on NFL videos of the game. It was high, still catchable but not a good pass. No reason to lead McDonald that high with a safety on top.

LOL I wasnt able to watch the game with being out of town and all. But it doesnt matter 1 ioda who starts versus SEA or whoever rest of the year. I wish they had made the Oline changes LOOOOOONG time ago before Kaep lost faith inhis OL then we may not be in this mess. As it stands, apparently gabbert looked good but doesnt matter as he WILL NOT be our starter next year. Kaep, if Gabbert keeps playing good, WILL NOT be our starter next year.

The only positive outcome for us IMO is letting Gabbert start versus SEA so he can get crushed and spare Kaep's confidence another week. then throw KAep in there rest of the year. IF Kaep can regain his magic then HE CAN be our starter going forward. Gabbert has ZERO chance of being our starter on opening day next year.

So starting Gabbert at the very worse lessens Kaeps trade value. At best, gives our young pass catchers confidence going into next season.

He caught both passes that Gabbert threw to him other than the underthrown INT. I think in general Gabbert showed better touch on his throws and wasn't just doing the one speed fastball "gun it in there" throw that Kaepernick has.

It wasn't a perfect throw but it was catch-able and should have been caught. But those mid-range throws where never really Kaps problem, it was the little things like pocket presence, situational awareness and short range accuracy among other things and Blaine looked better in those aspects. Also Gab was able to produce in the red zone, 2 td passes, an area that Kap has struggled greatly in.

I hear Gabbert is a smart guy who can string together his own sentences.

Seriously though, dropped catches on well placed passes made this game a lot closer than it should have been. Probably just chemistry between the receivers and a new QB needing time to solidify. I want Gabbert back for the Cawks, after that... we'll see.

Yes, you can review the play when the All 22 is available. It was classic Kaepernick, throw it in the vicinity of the receiver but not where they can easily make a play on it.

Vance McDonald is a professional football, receiving tight end....your job is to catch the ball. If you have TWO hands solidly on the ball...that ball is caught.

It's more classic Vance than it is classic Kaep. I'm not trying to say Kaep is the QB to go with based on that throw, but it is piling on to say that that throw was too high.

That being said...Gabbert does deserve one more start. I'm tired of "predictably" losing to Seattle. At least with Gabbert, we could be unpredictable.

Results speak. Don't really have much hope in Gabbert turning into something special ...or even above average, but it's a start in the right direction.

I'm sure TB liked the post game presser attire.

If you can throw a perfect 15 yard pass to a WR that allows them to pick up another 10-20 yards, to me thats a huge improvement over playing chuck and duck and hitting the occasional 35 yarder.

You do know they were playing against SEA defensive coordinator last year. That's pretty much what that type of defense gives up.

Notice the passes to the WR's were back shoulders and posts. That's also what works vs a cover 3 or SEA defense.

Phoenix: I absolutely agree. Perhaps I'm partial since the 49er roots are tied to the short passing game, but it opens up so much if defenses are forced to defend precision and timing. The same can be said for Run n' Gun offenses, but the odds are definitely in the WCO's favor since the passes are much higher percentage throws; as a result, our defense also looked much more rested today since our offense actually established a rhythm.

Joecool: Again, I agree. Unfortunately, Kap's style of QB play just didn't fit that mold. Precision back-shoulder passes, short routes in stride, the need for a quick release -- I was a big fan of Kap, but his skillset simply does not fair well against Seattle or Seattle-schemes (i.e., Dan Quinn). I'm not saying Gabbert is the answer, but he is our best option on the current roster.

Double agree you two faced mofo! I also agree with your agreement . Remember, if our receivers caught some of those, then we would have had quite a few 20+ yard completions also.

Lol. Not two-faced, I think my initial post on swing passes was read as patronizing, but I genuinely meant that as a compliment for Gabbert! lol

If there is one thing this team has been missing since Kap took over, it's accurate short passes. It's the difference between 2-and-4 versus 2-and-10 which opens up everything.

Today may have ruined our chances at a top-3 draft pick, but dammit, I saw WRs running after the catch. And it was so beautiful

Hopefully the bye-week can help clean up the dropsies.

I'm sure it must burn Kaps' ass to replace Alex Smith and then be replaced by "Alex Smith".

Even a noob like me can see that Gabbert can do what Kap cannot. At least for now. You could see the fear, indecision and lack of confidence in Kap's eyes for ages and it was reflected across his game. He's not there mentally. Gabbert is at the moment, he's making things look easy where Kap made it look hard. Gabbert stays in.

Troy Smith had a 115 QBR in his first game against Denver. Granted Denver wasn't 6-1 at the time.

I'm not ready to anoint Blaine just yet...but it was a promising start.

Was very frustrated with Kap

BG played like a back up today that the other team didn't have tape on.
One thing though: his pocket presence and accuracy were welcome.

Bottom line: I am worried about the future of he team with either of these guys.
