Missed tackles

we are sloppy, we miss tackles and we have to be right there amongst the leaders in penalties. i am very disillusioned by the "teachers" we have as "coaches

Need Proper tackling technique?? Just look up Patrick Willis vs brad smith

It's not unique to 49ers it's seems in the whole NFL players miss multiple tackles in a game. The coaching doesn't seem to bother even getting upset?

They all,want to make the big play tape. Most seems to just miss.

Something as important as a tackle in a contact sport like NFL seems to have regressesed to a flying head but.

In league technique is taught, can any past players of NFL college or high say if technique is taught and if how?

See lots of tackles into sleds but stoping a moving target ?

Yes, all the time. The problem is that the bags don't have the same moves as a good NFL running back. The bags just aren't that quick.

There does seem more one on one misses though in the NFL over other contact leagues as an observer of other sports as well,as NFL.

Yes. I guess in other codes it comes down to nesseseity, as every player is defensive and needs to be able to tackle. So a 190lb guy beeds to be able to tackle a 260lb guy, the only way is with proper technique.


As for nfl being "mostly non contact" i dont think thats true, its just if you plan to stay around long in the league, you better learn how to protect yourself, so smartly avoiding contact when its not needed is the way to go

Who ever made comment about no contact is full of s**t, the contacts when they connect ar huge hits.

Issue is many just miss. Wonder if they are coached to go for the big hits or just to stop a guy?

In saying that the obvious one on one situations see many misses from the tackler.

Tackling is a talent. We're not talented on defense anymore.

Interesting thing about this one is it's been introduced to help players career longevity as much as improve tackling performance.

Where is the seaspuks ranked in the league for tackles?

Still Can't believe In a statistic loving league like NFL they don't record missed tackles.

If you were a defence coach you would want to know the missed tackle count of a player one on one just as a start!

But that is just me, am I missing the point though?

I get that. Just relating it to the 49ers and their terrible tackling. This is the 49ers forum.

There is a guy on the 49ers PS who might be able to give the coaches some insight into Improving tackling through the rugby techniques.
