Not buying that.

Its f**king retarded to think otherwise. The worst NFL team would demolish the best college team. The backups on the worst NFL team were typically star players on their college team.

Another way to look at it is by taking what you think is the all-time best college team over, say, the last 20 years and go look at that roster and find out how many of those players made it to the NFL.

There are 53 NFL caliber players on an NFL roster. On the best college team there may be 6 to 8 NFL ready players, if that. All NFL teams would destroy the best college teams...all of them

Men playing against boys is never going to end well for the boys.

The only sport that it could work, is probably Basketball

We got greedy.

Unless the team fully revives the multidimensional WCO and gets away from the neanderthal Chicago Bears tradition, the team will continue to descend into the hopeless abyss. We had the best and most beautiful offensive football in the history of the game, which kept rolling out SB victories, now used by the most successful teams. Why chuck that? Whatever talent we have, unless we have a cohesive scheme, the team is spit'tin in the wind. Hopefully, we'll see a flash of that this week.

Strong organizations with an identity, the Steelers, Pats, Giants, Ravens, retool faster because they have competent people at the top that know who they are. Coach Walsh gave us an identity with the WCO and for almost 2 decades it stood the test of time. The Yorks have no identity. Coach Harbaugh brought a toughness and presence that we hadn't known in years. That's gone, who is this team? What am I rooting for, the uniform?
Not just at you Rishikesh ...
Just out of curiosity , other than Jed York, what (or who) one subtraction from the team would be the biggest step in returning to respectability and what/who one addition would do the same? In other words, who singularly is the biggest problem and who alone could solve a lot of this problem? Without a time machine or Madden trade please.

This is the least talented team since the 2002 expansion Texans.

Bowman was only impressive when teams were double and triple-teaming Patrick Willis.

Patrick Willis is gone. Justin Smith is gone. Ray McDonald is gone. Isaac Sopoaga is gone. Aldon Smith is gone. Carlos Rogers is gone. Chris Culliver is gone. Donte Hitner is gone. Dashon Goldson is gone. Chris Borland is gone.

Offensively, Joe Staley is the only proven lineman, and he's not that good. Vernon turned into a hipster and was so bad he was traded for a 6th round pick or whatever. Anquan Boldin is old and slow. Torrey Smith is a one trick deep threat pony. Think Ashley Lelie. Frank Gore is gone. Carlos Hyde is hurt.

Only Colin Kaepernick is an elite talent, but since he was surrounded by this, he's being benched the same way Steve Young was during the Eagles game in 1994. The difference is, Young had Jerry Rice and Ricky Watters.

You know Bowman is second in the NFL in tackles right? I would agree that he isn't quite as good in coverage, but I'm hoping that will return next year when he may not be thinking about his knee as much. As for the team as a whole, I am hoping for a quick turn around. Maybe I'm fooling myself, but there are some pieces there so here's hoping.

Bowman is still good but his stats are pumped by the record number of plays the Niners' defense is on the field.
This thread title is wrong IMO. This current team LACKS SPPED,POWER and Skill. It needs to be added atleast 7 to 10 new starters on offense/defense total. There are about 5 guys that I would call definate starters (Bowman,Staley,Hyde,Torrey and Boldin and Lynch). The rest are development type players who need time. The drafting has to get better because it cannot get worse can it?

I disagree. Since Singletary, the team has attempted smashmouth. Baalke still asserts this as the team's mojo, failing as it is.
3/5 of our offensive line sucks ass. Our front seven on d is weak. If you cant win in the trenches your not going to be able to compete.
Talent wise we are not far from getting all together canceled as a franchise.
