2015 Preseason Game 4: Thoughts on the final preseason game...

I have to admit...really hard having a ton to say after a 4th preseason game....

1) Kap: Didn't play. :) Thompson...still needs a lot of work to be serviceable, but gotta give it up...looked FAR better than he did in his first game.

2) Dockett: Kinda surprised to be honest. I can see the logic in cutting him because you don't want to expose a younger guy, but I thought they'd want that vet experience on the line. We'll see if the young guys can get it done, but a bit disappointed here. I've always kinda liked Dockett.

3) Armstead: I realize it was against backups, but he really flashed a few times last night. Very encouraging. He's never gonna be a speed, edge rusher, but MAN he's got some power. He collapsed the pocket on several occasions and I saw him clog running lanes and shed blockers better than he had in previous weeks. I was really encouraged.

4) DeAndrew White: Dude needs to make the team. Period.

5) Hunter: Always liked Kendall, but its over. He looks tiny out there. Hyde/Bush/Davis will get nearly all of the regular season carries. He's in a numbers game and all of the guys ahead of him look noticeably better.

6) Hayne: He's gotta make the team...and likely suit up on gameday for special teams. Not sure he'll be returning kicks, but I can see him out there on coverage. I loved that blow he put on the DB. LOL. I still don't think he's a RB yet though.

7) Patton: What happened? Did he just not get a shot? I have a feeling he might be done as well.

8) Ellington: Guys got some jets if he can stay on the field. Not sure if I want him as the 3 or the 4 though. I really like White.

9) "I'll just say this: The chatter coming from the 49ers locker room is not good. At all.": STFU Jim Trotter. I swear to god. All these guys can do is report this BS that means nothing and they offer zero substance. the ENTIRE locker room Jim? Really? Could it be peeps who were released? That report goes against EVERYTHING we've been hearing and it smacks of just trolling. If you are gonna say something like that, offer more information.

10) It's over: FINALLY. The off-season from hell is finished. Who knows what the season brings, but now (I hope) we can talk about events ON the field, and not off.
Agreed with pretty much everything. Not sure Ellington, Hunter or Patton make the team, not sure the heck happened with those guys...

Hunter is a RB3 at best now, but Mike Davis and Bush are RBs, so he is probably the odd man out.

Patton and Ellington may be kept only for depth

Not sure what value Hayne really brings... Do they keep Hayne instead of Bush, or both?
RE: Ellington. I am optimistic about his health going forward. There is a little article on the front page about how JT had a little come to jesus meeting with the kid about taking care of his health. I guess he wasn't stretching or using the trainers or any of it. It thought he was young and didn't need to take care of his body. He has by all accounts been pretty healthy since.

As to Hunter...yeah he is done I think.

lol did you miss the part where ellington took a slant 70 yards to the house or what?

all that speed lined up on the field with a torrey, vernon and reggie bush combo?

yea...

Hayne's value is an elite return man, a really dang good gunner and a possible guy to get a few gadget plays on offense. Think special teams ace with a little bit of upside on offense.
Ellington makes the team, he's the ideal slot receiver.

None of the starters played. Patton didnt play because he is the #3 WR. However it will be a fluid situation between him and Ellington.

White is impressive but he was making plays against 3rd and 4th stringers, Im thinking most of his impact will be on ST.
Found it interesting how both Ellington and D White both finally shined. Sucks that it had to happen in the 4th preseason game tho that's basically all scrubs I think they both make the team over Patton

Ellington and Patton will compete for the #3 spot at WR. Ellington had a monster game last night. The odds still favor White being bumped off the roster when Simpson returns, less guaranteed money but all those guys have to take advantage and make plays.

Hunter is gone.

Of course Ellington makes it. Hayne's value is that besides being what looks to be a sure-handed PR who can also gain a few yards, he can also play cover teams AND is a backup RB who can catch and looked pretty good in pass pro.

How well have any of the WR's done in the preseason in general, how well can anyone do when you pass for 80 yards a game. I think both Patton and Ellington will have opportunities to make plays, if they don't, then one of them could be getting bumped off the roster by Simpson when he returns. Conversely White's spot on the roster could only be temporary depending on how he performs, particularly on special teams.
