I will...shed a happy tear. The entire fan base may need to have a moment of silence.
If our fans know how to do anything in the stands, it's being silent.

This. Preseason is decent for evaluating individuals not really the group. Cant use last preseason as the end all be all of the argument, 2011's preseason was even worse and yet went 13-3.
It will be nice to see if certain players stand out but preseason doesn't mean jack sh*t. Hell the 49ers looked better in Singletary's preseasons then they ever did with Harbaugh, but then the real games started

Last year's preseason was a good indicator of how the season would go offensively. The first team offense couldn't do squat, Kap almost got killed in the Chargers game and lo and behold, that was a harbinger of the season to come. At the time most of us dismissed it as the coaches holding back the playbook and that it was "just preseason". But the team looked broken on offense and that carried into the season.
So we'll know right away where the team is offensively on Saturday. My view of the season will be shaped by the preseason. I dismissed it last season, but never again.
I hope the Niners rock the house this preason

3rd week in Denver with the 1st teams playing a longer portion than the rest of the preseason should give somewhat of an indication if the team could be competitive or not this year.

am glad the team is not doing some stupid cross country flight to baltimore for a practice. i will always believe that is where the falling from grace started to occur with the vet players and x coach

I agree. In most seasons I'd disagree. But last seasons preseason so matched the regular season. Plus, like NCommand stated, we're installing a "new" offense, especially the new blocking scheme. I'm not too worried about the defense though; I think we'll be fine there. I don't think the preseason is gonna tell us much on that side of the ball other than who's gonna claim that 2nd starting CB spot (which I hope will be DJ). In any event I do expect both sides to be pretty vanilla with the play-calling. Personally what I'm looking for is a smooth transition to the new scheme and continuity along the O-line. They don't need to show all the plays to determine that. We're gonna see early on just where we are., that much is for sure.

I remember how frustrating it was --starting O couldn't score an opening drive TD and everyone was losing their minds last year.
Considering all the losses we suffered already, i just want to see our line, and Kap look confident out there. I'm not too concerned about the defense. But generally you can't read too much into the PS... yes, remember the Singletary days.

but since we had jh/roman and morton calling the plays for us it was only a matter of time before we exploded on offense

One thing I liked about Harbaugh's preseasons was he didn't gameplan, and instead just ran plays that allowed the staff to evaluate specific players with zero f**ks given about winning a meaningless game. I hope that continues under Tomsula.

Maybe the 3rd game more than anything but preseason only really gives an indication of depth. I see the offense struggling in the preseason because of our 2nd and 3rd QB's. The defense should be nice to watch with so much depth at DL, LB and in the secondary.

Its irresponsible to let the backup QBs remain same.

Agree, the worst thing you can have at QB is continuity.
But seriously tho, Gabbert does suck. Would love to find an upgrade, but we're stuck with him for the time being.

Look around the league. Almost all backup QBs suck
