So honestly you don't think Iupati was worth keeping?

Why would you go $8 mil a year for a player who was one of the team's worst pass protectors last year? His best talent was pulling on a wham block, but by the second year of the Niners doing that, every time they tried it the entire defense just followed Iupati to the hole. It didn't work very well after the first 50 times they did it.

1. CB position looks like garbage on paper
2. MLBs, once a strong position is another questions mark. How good will the great Bowman be?
3. Right side of the o line is a HUGE hole. This is a major issue.
4. WR, will Boldin finally lose a step? Can the niners utilize the one dimensional Torrey Smith? Can they get him the ball deep? Is there any depth at WR?

5. TE, another question mark. Will Vance McD play? If so, can he do anything? Is VD even starting quality? The rookie?
6. RBs, can Hyde carry the load? What does Bush have left? Can Hunter come back after two major injuries?
7. Kap... man. Will he actually live up to the hype this year? We don't have an NFL level QB behind him.

Finally, leadership. We lost Cowboy, Willis and Gore. We don't know the true value of these losses yet. On the field, and in the locker room. Who will step up as a leader? Not to mention we have a brand new, unproven coaching staff.

Unless we have some major surprises from young guys and Tomsula and co. do an amazing job, this year will be rough.

So many dynamics. I don't know if you classify these as "worries," but on paper, we look like the last team in the West to pick. I forgot to mention, we are in the toughest division in football.
i hear some good reports about our cbs and on paper means nothing.
indications are from camp and sure that is what we have to go on, bowman is back
of course o line is a concern but i am sure its being worked on
not sure your worries about wide outs, the best one two we have had for years, good kids and a vet in simpson who have done well in camp
tight end thing , we are seeing a rookie out play a vet
leadership? already saw new guys like docket and bush come in, be leaders, be mentors, be spokesman for the team, and we have lots of other guys, bowman, bethea, boldin etc etc, not worried

Who would you like to replace him with? They weren't exactly in a cap friendly position at the beginning of FA.

Also what was the point in drafting Thomas and Martin if you were going to give them a chance at a starting spot??? Both were very good O-linemen in college.

not sure what i will do when i do not have to set there and froth at the mouth as i watch the playclock tick to zero in the upper right hand side of the tv screen

Yeah, 90% of the SF bars are now losing their favorite drinking game!

Agreed! $8 million a year for a guard that can't pass-protect??? Get outta here with that

You're not worrying...your blaming Baalke. You also have to remember we're moving to a zone blocking scheme. Iupati was very poor in pass protection and that was with standing next to Staley. Can you imagine Iupati trying to zone block on the move? LMAO. You'd take the one strength he had (power pulling guard) and turn him into a one-man key-stone-cops episode! Yeah, let's pay $40M for that.

I'm blaming Baalke for making me WORRY lol. That might be a good point about scheme but that was decided after he left at least to the public anyhow. I believe we have a solid team I just think that o-line weakness is so huge. So many drives ended last year because of the o-line discord. So many rushed throws because of it. Hopefully the extra time at the line that Tomsula is pushing makes a huge difference and we cover the flaws. I mean I'm worried and is only Wednesday. 8/15 might calm me down some. I know Pears is a zone guy so maybe he does us a solid and turns ProBowl idk. Like I said worry thread, I'm worried.

You're going to be whining about the players we have when sacks start rolling in because of the players we let go. Like I said we cap savvy for what? It hasn't produced a superbowl win.

you are the only one whining it seems to me. the day i whine for lupati

because we are the only ones awake. time zone difference. Lol

So honestly you don't think Iupati was worth keeping?
nope, not at that salary and considering he can only do one thing well when he is at the top of his game and thats run block

that's cool I respect your opinion. I hope for our sake whoever steps in turns ProBowl and keeps Kap upright and clean so we can get number 6. That's all I want number 6, this season, at home.

My worry is Baalke lying to the Ninernation again about trying to keep a player (Gore) when he's not. His recent comments about keeping Vernon and Aldon. He's lying about one or both. Why can't we ever retire our greats without shipping them off somewhere else first. Why couldn't Rice have stayed, Gore, Lott? I understand Montana somewhat because of the Lucky Lefty behind him but I know even if Vernon kills it this year he'll be gone. Probably too the Cardinals at that. Idk I like Baalke's defensive talent selections but his offensive mindset sucks. How many years did we need a deep threat? He's an idiot in that department. Why not get a tall wideout so Kap won't have to be soo accurate. Cam Newton has accuracy issues but he has two redwoods to throw to maximize his window and minimize the error margin. Whatever #F*Baalke!

And by "shipping them off" you mean being offered fair market contracts here and the PLAYERS choosing to go elsewhere for more money. Gotcha. Baalke's fault.

Baalke's being cap savvy for what? To lose to the Hawks? To bring in Reggie Bush when Gore can catch? He used to when we threw to him. Look the fan base had been screwed so at least keep a fan favorite. Yea we really tried to keep Iupati, just to replace him with what we're complaining about now? Spend some money. The right side sucks. It is Baalke's fault, Frank always knew he was leaving because the effort wasn't there Iupati as well. My problem is the replacements aren't upgrades. Will we always be a player away because of "cap savvy"

Where to even start with this.

Back to the original comments. What did Baalke have to do with Rice, Lott, or Montana? Different Owner, GM, and HC. I remember that Walsh was the driving force behind the philosophy of getting rid of/letting go a player one year too early rather than one year too late when they are eating up a high salary and a roster spot that may have been a player who was about to make the next step to NFL starter.

Iupati? Great Run blocker, poor in pass protection - not worth top dollar.

Gore? Love him. Wanted him to stay. But he is living on borrowed time as an NFL running back, and he saw a better opportunity (from his POV) to get to another SB with either the Eagles or Colts. He didn't want to stick around with a new HC and scheme change while he's looking retirement in the eye.

Baalke has made mistakes (just look at the 2012 Draft), but don't blame him for everything.

So is that a good thing or bad thing ?
I agree with his goods and bads as well as your opinion about Iupati. However I would rather have him than them. I understand the salary cap rebuttal but it's still a preference. like I said "cap savvy" from Baalke had us missing a LEGIT PROVEN deep threat for a stretch when that's all we needed to get us over the hump in my OPINION. (Not a Ted Ginn deep threat) but whatever now, I just want number 6, this year at home.

When they hired Foerster and Wolford, everyone knew we were moving to a ZBS. But to your 'concern' about the OL, that is everyone's concern...as it should be every year. We literally have this conversation every year even with the aforementioned. Our OL has been suspect for a long time now (esp. in PP). But there IS a lot of talent there...can it be realized?
