Brooks and Lynch? Not as great as Aldumb but not as bad as say,Ulbrich and co.
Thats one hell of a spectrum.

Most teams don't have ONE good pass rusher...we have Brooks, Lynch & Dockett just to start. Throw in HUGE upside in Harold and Carradine inside? That's 5 right there. And don't underestimate the rest of the DL to provide some pressure and Mangini to scheme additional pressure. But yeah, sure would have been nice.
Good post, NCommand. You're right on...I can tell from reading your posts over the past few years you watch, pay attention, and know football (not just the Niners). Some of these guys in this forum that say you're too positive or are just drinking the Kool-Aid either don't really know this team (i.e., haven't been watching every game & every play, reading daily about the team, etc.) or just don't know that much about football. A lot of teams don't have one good pass rusher as you mention...and some teams just have one or two. The names you mention on the Niners, Brooks, Lynch, Dockett, etc., all have known pass rushing abilities (Harold and Carradine have shown it more at the college level, but Carradine starting showing more last year as his knowledge of the scheme and playing time increased).
Would we like to have had Aldon this year as one of the league's best pass rushing threats and good at playing the run, where opponents have to account for him whenever he's on the field? Of course we would. However, it's not happening now or going forward - this team went nine games without him on the field last year and the D still held up pretty good as a Top 10 D in the league. That was also with no Bow, Willis and Brock hurt much of the year, Dorsey, Ian Williams, and others hurt, Cowboy playing hurt/with one arm as he said, and McDonald having his situation. It's going to be a challenging year with all the changes, no doubt about it. Yet with all the young and older talent on this team from top to bottom, I'm looking forward to it.

Silver lining? We finished top 5 in defense last year...BUT finished 21st (Seattle 20th) in team sacks with only 36 and that was with Aldon on the field for the final 7 games. Maybe we're overvaluing sacks a bit? Sack leaders were: Buffalo, Philadelphia, Baltimore, NY Giants, Kansas City, NY Jets, Jacksonville, Detroit, etc. and most of those teams had one HUGE year by one sack artist.

That's an interesting little tidbit, NC. Sacks numbers by themselves can be a bit overrated. It's more important to get consistent pass-rush from the defense and disrupt the passing game rhythm/timing. That's something I appreciated about PFF pass rusher grades, they factored in pressures just as much, if not more, than the number of sacks. Seattle was 20th in sacks, but everyone who played them knows they could be ferocious rushing the QB.

Together they had 12 sacks (1/3 of our team sacks)...from the same position. So this year, they both are going to have to step up even more (Brooks slimmed down and looking explosive), Lynch is going to have to get 100% healthy but he's going to love rushing from the WILL and Harold/Lemonier are going to have to play the Skuta roles now.

One of my favorite qualities about Harold. Natural born leader, in addition to being a talented pass rusher. Rooting for this kid to be a star.

I only single out kaepernick because it seems like he may have been involved with aldons relapse (I know it's only a rumor), his overall demeanor still comes off like an immature boy. He makes jokes about Houston flooding while they're still looking for the bodies? He's so f**king stupid and that's his problem, not his mechanics Kurt Warner can't fix stupid because he's stupid too." - donald trump
