I do recall some of the instances where the pass seemed to sail over his head and he never even attempted to reach up try to make a play. I'd say those passes were overthrown to the point it was not worth trying to jump for. It looks really bad as if he isn't giving any effort, but if I remember correctly, those passes were off target. I'll try to dig up an example or two because I think I remember at least one in the @NYG game.

Not trying to excuse VD here. He was not good last season, but I attribute the lack of targets to being injured with the back and not being able to accelerate and gain separation. The back most likely also affected his ability to sustain run blocks. There were a few times where he looked horrible trying to run block. The dropped passes is what is most frustrating because that's just a lack of focus.

Here are the two instances I recall that, from the broadcast view, looked like VD was half assing his effort.

I think VD could have taken a sharper angle to the Corner here. He runs like a skinny Corner, but it may because the DB has outside leverage and had VD cut a sharper angle, he would have run right into the DB.

I removed the GIF of VD missing the block on the read option play from a few posts that re-quoted it because I thought my post above would make page 7 too GIF intensive. I didn't know that the post above would start a new page.

VD was dogging it last season. I screamed at my TV often due to that.

agree. i stopped blaming the injury in about game three when he was loafing. but i will give him a second chance. hope he has a good year for us which will force the team to make a decision. i just am so unsure about the back ups so i really disagree who just want him gone today. i think carrier will do well, i have a good feeling about bell, no clue about vance. i am not reassuring myself about the guys behind vernon.
