but the entire draft was a head scratcher

drafting the 11th ranked punter

drafting the 47th ranked OT

drafting two TE's and not drafting an ILB or CB
I can't lay Taylor Mays on Baalke. I've read a number of accounts of that draft that said Baalke was mainly interested in Kam Chancellor, but Singletary was adamant that he wanted Mays.
Don't forget drafting Vance Mcdonald when Zach Ertz was on the board...TB has had more misses then hits...

Singletary was yelling in the war room. Looked belligerent, as he often did. Baalke gave in, which I'm sure he always regretted.

Long time reader but first time poster. I usually give Trent B. the benefit of the doubt when it comes to decisions on who the 49ers keep or don't keep, sign or don't sign. But there is very specific area that he has always confused me...2nd round picks!!! This isn't crying over spilled milk because I never liked or understood several of his 2nd round picks. Trent drafted Taylor Mays, LaMichael James, Carlos Hyde and now Tartt in the 2nd round. I didn't like any of the picks when they were made. Don't get me wrong, I like Carlos Hyde and have high hopes for him this year. But when we drafted him I thought there were more pressing needs than a RB. The other three picks just infuriated me and in my opinion were wasted picks from the start. How do you build a winning team when you keep wasting second round picks? Does anyone else feel the same way?

1) Mays was really a Singletary Pick.
2) James was BPA...didn't work out.
3) Hyde was taken to play THIS year...which he will. Baalke drafts for future need, not immediate need.
3) Read the above for Tartt.

Mike was telling Trent to take Bowman in the 2nd and Trent picked Mays, lucky for us Bowman was still there in the 3rd

....like all GMs. You have to see the forrest through the trees and compare to the rest of the lg when evaluating how a gm does.

This, plus Harbaugh wanted James. He said he killed them every time they played so he wanted him on his team. Baalke is more of a bigger RB guy. Baalke likes big over speed.

if you haven't noticed Trent is in love with drafting Safeties

2010
2nd Rnd - Taylor Mays

2011
3rd Rnd - Chris Culliver
6th Rnd - Colin Jones

2012
6th Rnd - Trenton Robinson

2013
1st Rnd - Eric Reid
3rd Rnd - Corey Lemonier

2014
1st Rnd - Jimmie Ward

2015
2nd Rnd - Jaquiski Tartt

He also loves turning those Safeties into CBs and LBs

In Balkes time as a GM 12/160 2nd round picks have made a pro bowl in the nfl. 5 of those came from the 2010 nfl draft. BEING A GM IS HARD.

THAT IS YOUR EVIDENCE FOR YOUR CLAIM? (and you do know Corey Lemonier is not a safety right?)
