Now that the draft is over I think you can put together a relatively clear picture of what the 53 man roster will look like going into the season. I know most people are generally pessimistic for the coming season but after looking at the 53 man roster I feel more confident this is a team that can compete. I really wanted to see how people feel after looking at the depth chart. Does this make you more confident going into the season or worse? Remember this is obviously just a guess at the 53 and I admittedly was a little optimistic with some of the rookies making the team. However for the last few years most of the rookies have managed to find a way onto the roster relatively few have been cut. Too early now...but he, Hayne, Okoye, Tiller, Patton, Dres, White, Dillon, TJE, Skov, Devey, etc. are all right on that cusp. Simpson just opened up a spot for one of them in the interim.

What merits Wheeler over a proven vet like Desmond Bishop?

Dude hasn't been seen at practice since mini camp ended.

Bishop had a good couple years in Gb but hasn't been anything in the nfl since 2011. He lost a step he didn't have to lose because of injuries.

Wheeler was not cut by Oakland. He was signed away as a free agent to a big 5 year contract after having a great year on a terrible oakland defense. He was not worth that contract and after struggling in Miami was cut.

Wheeler is the more proven commodity recently but I think Bishop is a much better fit in a 3/4. Both have a lot to prove to make the squad.

My one problem is Nick Bellore keeps getting overlooked, no way IMO, he doesn't make the roster. Has a lot of incentives that are likely in his deal, which indicates the 49ers like him, and he was just activated off NFI, so I think he would make it over Wheeler.

Agreed. People made the same mistake with Skuta when we signed him. Don't underestimate Bellore. He could be our best special teamer.
