How much can an over 30 TE, with one year left on his deal, fetch on the trade market anyways? 49ers finally get a speed threat on the outside (Torrey). Makes little sense to trade away the other speed threat. Then they'll be back in the same boat they've been in the past couple years - only 1 deep threat. He's also now in a leadership role.

I think Baalke/Paraag know what's up and will massage some contracts.

massage contracts as you say doesn't fix the issue it just puts it off so you can sign all the players per the current rules

the reason they are over budget is because they are now paying for contract perks of the past few years

AB suggested a few candidates for reworking their contracts so it's either that or cut/trade players.
I have a stupid sick feeling that the 49ers are gonna trade Kap on draft day to philly for the Eagles 1st rounder. I may be wrong but something is brewing i have a stupid hunch.

Now thats bold prediction

hmm how well will that work out for us...not having a QB

I am prepared to bet they don't. We would have picked up a solid vet to cover whilst our rookie developed. Gabbert? Not so much.
I don't see us trading Kap to anyone, at least not until next offseason.
What if we cut Brooks?

This one actually makes sense, and they were going to before Willis and borland retired.

But now that our LB's have gotten thinner, i don't think they will.

But they should.
Out of curiosity, what if we traded Alex Boone?

That's pretty BS that all you guys are giving up on VD already.

Don't forget he wasn't fully healthy last season, and on top of it because of his Hold out he missed some offseason days to come in and practice

His attitude since the departure of Willis, he's come in and shown he wants to win and has put all that BS aside, so i feel like he's preparing himself to have a great year.

This is VD were talking about, we've seen what he can do.

I understand we have a Cap issue, but i don't see how cutting him makes that a good move.

Let's just give up all our talent and jus have a bunch of money.

lol

I liked the old VD but the dude who held out last year and would rather be painting can gtfo

No reason for him to hold out, wasn't even his contract year lol, the team called his bluff and he was clearly pissed.

Dude jumps for every pass when he doesn't have to.
Lines up in the wrong spot at least a few times a game.

This kind of sums up my thoughts on VD as well. If the "old" VD is able to come back, great, but the VD from last year was a complete waste of salary. I would not be overly upset if they traded him to be honest.

i never worry about that stuff. the people in charge know how to do free agency and they know how to handle the salary cap thing. i never lose sleep on this

This is hard to stomach. From a business/ logical point of view ....a trade does make a ton of sense.

My fan side and gut want to see VD bounce back this year. Its also salivating to think what he could do if hes healthy and now finally TSmith is a legitimate deep threat on every play. He really changes the dynamic of the offense, something we have not had for a few years. But VD isn't getting any younger and last year was horrific.

They will get under the cap fine for this year. I am making a huge assumption that Aldon smith does very well and will be getting a monster deal next year so I am more curious about that situation.
LOL.

Kap ain't going anywhere.

Thank you. VD will put up his usual stats that we began taking for granted as fans.

Now IF and only IF he has another season like last year, then the discussions are legitimate/concern.

But this "fresh start" under new HC will bring new energy and for the first time in 4 years our team has had an extended offseason.
Trade Brooks and Boone, cut Dawson and Dahl and we're good.
