99% of the focus is on Kaepernick and not the issues which he purportedly supports.

In anycase this isn't an issue that anyone who hasn't been living under a hole isn't familiar with. He's not reaching out to anyone that the president and any number of people who have broached the subject haven't. This is something that has been in the media for years. What he could be doing is actually working within the community and coming up with some solutions, using his status to bring people together and push for things such as improved police relations....etc.

Any a*****e can sit down during the anthem and post a bunch of hashtags on Twitter, especially as his football career is circling the drain and he doesn't have much left to lose. What he's doing has no bearing on the real world besides bringing a whole lot of attention to himself.

Retweeting Shaun King 500 times is easy, get your hands dirty and putting in the work to affect real world change is hard.
I agree that he needs to get into it; get dirty. I want him to see what racism, poverty, and the like are. But to say he has no effect is B.S. Will it be huge? Unlikely. But others may follow suit. Others will be selfish and turn their back on the issue. And you know too well that nobody gives a damn about that dude that weighs 345 and just went back for his second jumbo gulp that is sitting during the anthem. Certainly, no one gives a damn about that dude. Though, that dude might try some tofu or something.

Maybe, just maybe, he needs to do this personally? It is entirely possible that he is doing this because he feels connected to the issue. Now, more to your point, I would like to see him actually get involved. Set some of that salary aside to help some folks in the inner city. Work, as a celebrity, to foster better relations between white and black America. And, you know, improve as a football player.
The only part of this that irks me is that it comes off as an attention grab to himself to me.

He's barely relevant anymore. He could have easily gotten other players to do this with him and it would have been more impactful. Instead he chose to put the spotlight on himself.

He should have made some sort of physical action to go along with his statement such as donating his time or money to the cause.

It's come off as half ass effort to me. Both for his cause and toward winning the starting qb job. It would have been different if there was more action to go along with it. Imo

It's his right to sit. I have no problem with anyone sitting during the national anthem. Just keep your head focused on the task at hand.
You guys still talking about this? He was a punk before this, hes a punk still. Kaepernick is a dead money backup that won't perform or support his team, this thread by next year if not sooner won't exist.
If Anquan or another respected black player did something similar ppl wouldn't care because he has character and a track record of being an actual philanthropist rather than being a stupid spoiled punk b***h that nobody likes on and off the field drawing yet again more attention to himself and s**tstorm of negative drama on this franchise.
Pears is gone! Kerley was once expected to be good, maybe he can with chip. So many better threads

Alex Boone not happy with former teammate Colin Kaepernick. Boone's brother was a Marine. Called sitting through National Anthem "shameful."

That is better than the dude on the Broncos who said that if Kaepernick was his teammate he'd stomp on his toes until he stood up.

I'll be shocked if his newfound social activism lasts beyond the end of his current relationship with a politically active and highly outspoken radio host but that is just me being a cynical a*****e.

JJ Watt would grab him by his ear

49ers players say Colin Kaepernick addressed the team. Not all agree with his decision to sit, but teammates support his right to do so.

I feel he needs to be performing better to n the field to make his stand off of it more noteworthy.

It's already national news it's not going to be much more noteworthy if he had won the job already. You don't wait until it's convenient to make a statement you feel is that important. I respect Kaep more for doing when it could be the most costly for him. Could cost him the chance to start and prevent other teams from signing him because of the backlash he's received. I also agree with DeHubb, he's protesting in a way that harms NO ONE. Except maybe himself.

Lol. Over dramatic much? The only thing that'll stop Kap from starting and playing is Kap. His play for the last year and a half has absolutely sucked and he didn't look like he made any improvements Friday. He still showed the same BS and still looks lost.

Totally fair. Totally. I wonder if dude is trying to figure himself out. The problem for us is that he has struggled, been injured, and is now captivated by this issue. I think he needs to figure himself out. Sadly, that may mean he has to leave to do it. Who knows what he becomes....

Then again, he might light the world on fire in the next game. Then we get to do this all over again.

I have to disagree with the bolded. There is no way to know at this point how his protest will sit with guys in the locker room who might have a different perspective on this issue. Seems to me that one of his primary goals this off season was to try and win back a locker room that many reports suggested that he had lost, or maybe never even had. While I have no problem with his choice I can't really see how this helps him with his teammates

I know if I were a player on the 49ers I would be disgusted to have someone like that on my team. Giving the team a bad name for dumb acts like that that he caused on his very own, I'd want him outta here asap

Are you black? If you aren't would be minority on the team, so you'd have no idea how the majority of the players would feel about what Kaep did. For all you know it could have made his teammates respect him more.

You can tell they all agreed with him because the rest of the team joined him in sitting during the anthem. Oh wait...
