I said it earlier: 20 years from now, no one will remember Kaepernick sitting on the bench during a preseason game. People remember the impact of things like a gold and silver medalist standing on the podium giving the Black Power salute. Maybe if Kaepernick was the talk of the league like he was in 2012, it would have more impact, more staying power.

No, I didn't say he had to be the best at his profession to take a stand. I'm saying he would have more impact in the long term. Do you really think anyone will discuss this in the history books as a defining moment in American history?

What's really sad is that a black man refusing to stand up and sing a National Anthem written by a racist slave owner is viewed as disrespectful....TO THE RACIST SLAVE OWNER!!!

How was that personal? We live in an era of shallow hashtag activism where people think retweeting something makes them committed to a cause. Its not any different than those who roll around with "Support the Troops" bumper stickers on the back of their Chevy Tahoe. What percentage of those actually go out and volunteer at the VA hospital or other veterans organizations? How many are really "supporting the troops?"


When I hear about Kaepernick working with community leaders and police, working to address these issues that he's supposedly really mad about rather than just retweeting a whole bunch of stuff, I'll applaud him for doing work. Because of his celebrity status he gets access to people that the average person otherwise may not. People will answer the phone for him that they may not for your neighbor or some random person. The ability for him to make change happen on a local scale is out there. If he goes and puts the time in, we all should applaud him.


Otherwise can you blame those who see this as a self-serving ploy to get set free from a team that he no longer wants to be on?

For some reason Afrikan and Blindfury have this weird thing where anyone that criticizes Kap they always say it's "personal". yeah I know it makes no sense. Let's be real real here. Afrikan is a big Kap fan. Not on the obsessive level as Blindfury. Afrikan at least tries to hide it, but with his boy playing really bad on Friday he's having a hard time. Just let him lash out.

I have to disagree with the bolded. There is no way to know at this point how his protest will sit with guys in the locker room who might have a different perspective on this issue. Seems to me that one of his primary goals this off season was to try and win back a locker room that many reports suggested that he had lost, or maybe never even had. While I have no problem with his choice I can't really see how this helps him with his teammates

I know if I were a player on the 49ers I would be disgusted to have someone like that on my team. Giving the team a bad name for dumb acts like that that he caused on his very own, I'd want him outta here asap

Are you black? If you aren't would be minority on the team, so you'd have no idea how the majority of the players would feel about what Kaep did. For all you know it could have made his teammates respect him more.

You can tell they all agreed with him because the rest of the team joined him in sitting during the anthem. Oh wait...

Or... Maybe some do agree with him but don't have the financial security and a completely guaranteed salary this year that Kaepernick has. There's not a lot of people that would put their entire career in jeopardy over something they feel strongly about but doesn't affect them directly.

It wasn't personal with me before he acted like a butt wipe and disrespected the flag, the country, and the veterans who served,so that he would have a right to make an ass out of himself. As a fan I didn't like the trajectory of his career and how that affected the team. As a DAV I was appalled that the ignorant piece of crap chose to do what he did during the anthem. I support his right to protest anything he wants anytime he wants, but I also have the right and privilege to say what I think about it. It wasn't personal before, but it damn sure is now. I would like to think that when he disrespected the flag, the ceremony and by extension the active duty military and veterans of every race, Creed, and color who served this great nation, just to further his own personal agenda, he has incurred the disgust and dismay of a majority of the fans to which he owes his privileged and pampered existence. So yeah, it is personal with me now.

Not to mention he is miserable excuse for a QB.

That's always a good time to do something like this...AFTERWARDS...dude has communication issues. Had he run this through the FO and addressed his teammates about it prior, I probably wouldn't have as much of an issue with. His timing was horrible though.
