The 49ers "absolutely" want Colin Kaepernick to be in their plans in 2016. Kaepernick still wants to be traded.
The funny thing is, the quarterback coming off his worst NFL season needs the Niners a lot more than they need him.
For starters, Kaepernick's heart may not be in San Francisco, but that's where his best chance for big money is. If he stays and does his job well enough, he can make $16 million.
It's hard to trade an underperforming quarterback who's at Kaepernick's salary level, because the acquiring team has to both pay him and give up draft picks. Why would anyone want to bite?
The Jets, his reported team of choice, can see they can keep Ryan Fitzpatrick, who's coming off his best NFL season, for a lot less. They already know he's a great fit for Chan Gailey's offense.
If another team wants to take a shot at a QB who's damaged but promising athletic goods, it wouldn't need to give up anything to take a flyer on a hungrier Robert Griffin III.
Kaepernick needs to shake off his grudge with the 49ers organization. He should see that he needs to give Chip Kelly a real shot. Kelly can make the best use of his best assets: his strong arm and running ability. It will be a lot harder for Kaepernick to start from scratch somewhere else and try to redevelop into the special QB he once was. Kaepernick is silly to think the Niners didn't hire Kelly with him in mind most.
That's a commitment to him, and it would behoove him to show the same commitment to them.
The 49ers have the seventh pick in the draft, with a shot at Carson Wentz, Jared Goff or Paxton Lynch. Heck, they even aren't ruling out the possibility that Blaine Gabbert could remain a starting option if Kaepernick proves not to be up the task of starting for Kelly.
In short, they have options. Kaepernick is trying to throw away his best one. At this point, he's not in a position to demand anything. He's the one who hasn't worked hard enough to maintain the edge he once had as the league's most dynamic athletic passer.
Before he can have his pick of where he wants to go, he needs to take advantage of where he is to get things right, to get back on track toward being a $20 million-a-year quarterback.
He should be excited for the change that Kelly brings, instead of refusing to change his stance. When you want to be seen as one of the top leaders at the position, an unwillingness to fight through adversity on and off the field is a bad look.
Kaepernick should seize the opportunity to ace Year 1 with Kelly. Then he can really be in control of the situation.
If the 49ers get the right offer, it wouldn't be too hard to say goodbye to Kaepernick. At that point, Kaepernick would be saying goodbye to his best chance at succeeding in the NFL again.

why is it that journalist think that Professinal Athletes have the same mentality as them?
This Athlete should do this.... this is this athletes best chance that..lol.
These professionals have pride... they also are highly confident in themselves....unlike these journalists.
"best chance at big money if he stays here"...lol. Kaepernick already has some millions. He could get more some where else.
Pride does play a role for players. If most of the leaks we have all had to deal with are true, and it pisses us off that our front office allow this to happen... then how the heck do you think the main person who's credibility was dragged through the floor feels about it.
it's like working for an employer that was trying to screw you... as a player and a person. To have to still work under them, when really you have a chance to have a choice in the matter? I mean Kap said this
Today, the 49ers quarterback was asked if he felt he was being made the scapegoat by somebody within the organization, much like Harbaugh was in 2014.
"I really hope not," Kaepernick said. "For me, I give everything I can to this organization. I give everything I can to my teammates to try to help us win and to try to help us be better moving forward."
as well as...
Q: To keep from worrying about your future job security when all this noise is going on outside, how do you stay focused?
KAEPERNICK: I don't play for job security. Whether football is here or not, I will be fine. I go out – I play to win. I'm not worried about job security when I step in this building.
does that sound like someone who is desperate for money? that would put pride/a grudge aside....and act as if the Front office didn't try to screw him?
some believe that Kaepernick wants to leave because they think that Kelly told him he'd have to compete for the job... I mean we have seen Kap compete at everything...hell he's focused as s**t, playing table tennis against the Ausse.
IMO, if these rumors are true..it's most likely because Kaepernick does not trust the front office. And understandingly so. I mean he's on these one year deals. And he signed that because he trusted the front office would make good on that contract...and I'm sure during that whole time he thought they'd also look for the best interest of their franchise QB.
Like Kaepernick said...he doesn't worry about it, and neither should these reporters. They have TOTALLY Different mentalities. But some fans eat these articles up.
