My memories of Lon Simmons go back to the early 60's...he and Russ Hodges were the voices of the SF Giants. His "Tell it Goodbye" became his signature call of the many HR's the Giants hit in those days at Candlestick. I listened to him on my trusty transistor radio. Lon also doubled as a great voice of the 49ers. His legendary call of Steve Young's bizarre run for a 50 + yd TD vs the Vikes is a pure classic. He richly deserved the Ford Frick award, which is the announcer's equivalent of the players' HOF. We've lost one of the all-time greats, folks. RIP, Lon Simmons.

I have the same memories as a kid, listening to Hodges and Simmons on my transistor radio. I was sent to the principals office once for listening to them on my transistor radio in class.
And no one ever screamed "touchdown 49ers" like Lon did.
