.. and what's he done??
Didn't look terrible filling for Bowman. He's a backup forced to play, plain and simple. Every team has these guys.
Exactly. He was never intended to be a starter. Every team signs players based purely on special teams ability and that's it. Blake Costanzo was brought in for the same reasons in 2011. Larry Izzo carved out a nice 13 year career for himself and never started a single game his entire career based solely on his special teams ability. This happens all over the NFL. When you get to the fourth or fifth inside linebacker on the depth chart, what exactly are his expectations supposed to be?
Izzo wasn't meant to be a starter to a team with a legit starting ILB and a backup... DO WE HAVE THAT BACKUP??
Once again Armstrong and Bowman were atop the depth chart. Those guys were playing just fine before finding I.R. Having two all pros at the position has spoiled this fanbase. Bellore was under Hodges and Wilhoite when the season began. Both of whom entered the season with starting experience in the NFL. You being so critical of the play of a guy that began the season as the fifth inside linebacker is a little ludicrous.
Izzo and Costanzo were just a couple of examples to show that this is quite normal for guys to be on the roster solely for their special teams abilities. It happens all over the NFL. Every team has them good or bad. You called him wasted money. With all the areas of the team that need to be improved, nitpicking on the play of a special teams player that has been thrusted into a much larger role due to some very unfortunate events is a little short-sighted imo. If your going to be critical, then be so of Hodges and Wilhoite. Be so of Purcell. Bellore had a defined role carved out for himself. Hodges, Wilhoite, and Purcell were supposed to be the ones holding down the fort with the injury bug striking down on the top of the depth chart at their respective positions.
