Right, but Crab was far and away our most talented WR when Kap arrived. I'm guessing seeing those three draftable WR working side by side has allowed him to make some decent comparisons.

Seems impossible to come out of this situation as a QB and not have a "favorite" receiver of the three he just spent time with...as a player and as a teammate. Surely Kap would have a recommendation. I know I would!

Its time for Patton and Elington

I'd be pretty surprised. Someone will believe they can sell their fans on his trouble free year off. Someone will see all that talent and convince themselves that he's turned the corner. I'm guessing someone takes him in the 1st. If it's us, I hope we're right.

Ditto!

How frequently is a truly great WR drafted? Probably less than one each year, throughout the NFL.

Last year would be the exception.

Even that is still open. After 1 year...my bet some of those RC will not be able replicate the season they had.

I do hope Kap tears it up this year.

Poor crabtree, the curse has attached itself on to him during his free agency. I've read the dolphins offered around 3 million a year but he wants 4.5 a year.

I wonder if he will get it from anybody?

How'd his meeting with the Raiders go? Carr the younger can spin the ball, and they need to spend money...

Has anyone else noticed that since T.O. we have not drafted a great WR,

We've drafted so many since then, and all have failed. I want to start this list off from 1998 since we had only 3 picks in 97 but no WR's.

1998 Ryan Thelwell (7th round, 215th pick)

1999 Tai Streets (6th round, 171st pick)

2001 Cedrick Wilson (6th round, 169th pick)

2003, Arnaz Battle and Brand LLoyd (6th round, 197th pick)(4th round, 124th pick)

2004, Rashaun Woods, and Derrick Hamilton (1st round, 31st pick)(3rd round, 77th pick)

2005, Rasheed Marshall, and Marcus Maxwell (5th round, 174th pick)(7th round, 223rd pick)

2006 Brandon Williams (3rd round, 84th pick)

2007 Jason Hill (3rd round, 76th pick)

2008 Josh Morgan (6th round, 174th pick)

2009 Michael Crabtree (1st round, 10th pick)

2010 Kyle Williams (6th round, 206th pick)

2011 Ronald Johnson (6th round, 182nd pick)

2012 AJ Jenkins (1st round, 30th pick)

lol. is this thread real life?

since 98 I see 2 first round busts. a couple of 3rd rounders that didnt pan out. aaaaand a whole of nothing to see here after that.

Do you realize how many WRs drafted in the 3rd -7th since 98 that didnt make it in the league

Not sure what your point is? No NFL team had good receivers for ten years...no big deal? Last year was the first time the niners have had competitive receivers in a decade. Three of them were under performers--Johnson (though he wasn't given much of a chance), Lloyd and Crabtree. Boldin was our only tough, truly good receiver.

Next year we can hope to have Boldin and T Smith in the lead, with more experienced Ellington and Patton pushing for reps.
We have good WR, its all up to CK and his check down and the coaches offense. We have the weapons

I hope it's a lot better. The Niners receivers were the sixth worst group in the league in terms of dropped passes last season. And before anyone considers blaming Kaepernick for that, the five teams with worse drop percentages than the Niners were the Colts, Chiefs, Jaguars, Ravens and Raiders in that order.

look at the nfl stats in the last 10 years you speak of.....look at the top 5 WRs every year.... than look at their QB and system. That should tell you something.

When you look at the debacle of Erickson, Nolan, Singletary and the QBs at the helm in those systems its not hard to tell why we havent had good WR play.

That's my point.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Not one of the wonderful 49er WRs drafted over the past ten years went to another team and became better. Ginn was used more but his game was the same. Lloyd was his normal up and down self and bounced from team to team. I would argue that these two were the best receivers the 9ers had over the past decade other than washed up guys--Bruce, Moss, Edwards. Crabtree has been erratic and lackluster. Now they have Boldin who is actually a fine WRs and has done well with the niners dispite the power running game.

Which WRs have done better on other teams? Not saying it's all on the WR as coaching, QBing, scheme...all play a part in limiting passing success.

You are right on. Only Lloyd leading the league in yards with Orton. But that was an exception. Lloyd also had a few great games especially against us with Brady. But as we know Lloyd was a good wr for a third round pick.

Lloyd's big year in Denver was nearly 500 more yards than his next best year! I had hoped that this was who he was when he joined the niners years ago. Those leaping, one-handed sideline grabs were so fun! But seven teams later... His best year in SF was Smith's rookie year (733)...and then he was gone!
Who knows, but the draft is top heavy with WR and DT/DE... i wouldnt pass them up
