We have to get better there and we may improve throughout the season doesn't mean we are set at the OLine.

Food for thought.

The Center looks very good.

Thoughts??

If they are going O line in the first they are better served getting a tackle.

They should be much better in the run game this week. No Vita Vea aka the Samoan run-stopping cheat code.

Pass blocking could take a dip. People are sleeping on Bengals' pass rush. It's legit as f.

took 3 of our guys to prevent him from eating Jimmy...he still chased after him too
What were JG's numbers after that run? Was he better due to trusting his knee?

Agree. ONe other reason they should be better is simply more actual game reps on that offense. They should be sharper because of that, from a run blocking standpoint, and they should have less penalties, simply because of that.

This is why I haven't posted much in response to the chest-thumping. We're one game into the season. Time will tell.

It's not chest-thumping, it's saying job well done week 1....now we have to see if they can have some consistency. I'm pretty sure if they played god awful we'd be hearing about it all week

Praise them when they play well and criticize them when the don't.

Yeah but it wasn't saying job well done, it was saying "we were told this team couldn't handle a pass rush" first week of the season against a team without pass rushers.

But that's okay. Nothings wrong. It's all good.

Saying job well done is exactly that, nothing more. But I'm sure regardless of the performance you'll praise and defend.

They seemed to have a good pass rush vs. Panthers??

We passed on 3 veteran tackles (tried em out, now they gone)...I guess that means our current back up(s) are better

Mcglinchey and Staley are proven to be durable, so maybe they wanted to roll with what they have and bet on coaching and development of the young guys(ie Justin Skule).

John Benton has done a good job with guys like Laken Tomlinson, and everything we heard about Shon Coleman's development was very encouraging.

Tomorrow will be another good test for the OL. Cincy has some power in their front line.

Fans were noting constantly Richburg and Tomlinson getting dominated inside, McGlinchey struggled some too. Not horrific but I think fans were more surprised by the Bucs defense which was bad last year. However, in the OL thread, it was noted over and over we'd struggle against Vea and Suh.

Since everyone was astounded by the OLs pass pro, and underwhelmed by the run blocking, is it possible this was just an aberration caused by the Vea/Suh combo? Said differently, could two mountainous meat eaters like Suh and Vea somehow be responsible for negating our entire OL run blocking?

If so, the next question would be how/why? It was pretty obvious they put the man over them 2 yds back in the backfield every play. Was having 2 or 3 extra guys in the same area where our RBs go laterally the reason. Actually it was 4 guys being in the behind the LOS lateral running lane, in that Person, Laken PLUS Suh/Vea were all 2 yds behind LOS. Ok, richburg too. Maybe there was just no terra firma for the RBs to run laterally?

And thinking back, any RB not going up the gut got stuffed....but so did those going vertical. To see that after watching the same OL work like a machine last yr in a losing season , to free up our RBs...that was impressive. But Suh/Vea sure had that stuffed up. Were they the ONLY reason, keeping in mind the PP was so spectacular?

Just watching the game and seeing the OL make no run lanes to either go thru or cut back against...it just looked really weird (compared to last yr).. Same could be said for PP.
