Nice! Didn't think he'd make this quick a recovery. This should help.

Vita Vea and Suh are a really tough first matchup, especially considering how few practice reps he's gotten, but I'd still rather have him than Garland there.

If he can have even a decent game right out of the gate against those two, I'd be elated!

I expect a slow start for the OL this year. I also expect to hear that "we were told" if they allow a single hit or sack.

what are they supposed to say if the o line comes out like s**t.. as predicted by many people here? i understand there will be a ton of excuses /deflections./ but but.. it takes time.. its jimmys first game back.. they are rusty. they did not attend enough hockey games together

You are gold iowa.

The key will be to establish the run first then get Jimmy in a rhythm with quick short passes first. I think the scheme makes the runners look really good. Especially since the Bucs weakness last year their run D and I have read that it may have not improved a lot. With their #1 pick reported as having the flu on Saturday, even more so, run and exhaust them. Then pass the ball, no need to force Jimmy to pass so quickly.

I so hope we can get the running game going early & often against this defense

A great article by former OL Geoff Schwartz on line play :

Trust and communication across the line takes times and is important to OL success. Richburg has not had that practice time this off-season and we did not get to see our starting five get to practice together all off-season.

It's a huge factor indeed. Esp. in this nuanced scheme...very detailed and precise. Richburg is just going to be focused on health I would imagine. It's going to take a long time to earn that trust back in his legs, get in NFL shape and not have to think and just play automatic again. Be easy on him. It could be ugly today.

I think intelligence has a lot to do with trust. If all the OLinemen are intelligent enough to pick up each players nuances when playing. Like how they react to certain formations, fronts, blitzes and/or can anticipate stunts and blitzes - that goes a long way (at least in my view of Kyle's system) to make that line more effective. I.E. the success of this OLine is more of a positioning than strength. If they are smart enough to get into position to shield the RB from a tackling DT vs the OLineman road grading the DT -- in a man blocking system, that's good enough for a speed back to get to the second level and beyond.

maybe,, it also comes down to simple fundamentals that the players can control no matter. playing assignment sound and not whiffing on s**t and making penalties which we also have struggled in. not you nc... but its funny that a few hours before game day. some posters are already being forward thinking in lining up some excuses if the o line is crap today.. and if its fine. those same people will say.. see negative nancies . we knew all along the line would be fine. .

There's some good players on that DLine, and Richburg is just coming off injury - those are facts. Having said that, I still think they will play well (barring injury - *knock on wood*)

My hope is that Kyle and Jimmy can get a lead on the Bucs and in the 2nd half, just run that team into the ground. No need for Jimmy to pass and possibly get hurt, just hand off to RB1A and RB1B and call it a day.

establish that run kyle as we know or assume the o line can run block very well.. make jimmy move around. screen passes to the backs. in the flat to juice.. man remember the days when other teams knew if we got up by two scores in the 3rd quarter. the way we could run the ball. we would be very hard to beat? be nice to get back to that

Actually that post is from a few days ago not a few hours ago. And it is not excuses, it is realistic expectations.

It's not an NFL secret that OL play especially pass pro takes time to come together.

By trust, I mean, him mentally trusting his recovering injured leg (knee, quad).

i want to see him on the move because i think he is better when moving around as a qb. not to mention see how the knee holds up. i guess with our o line. him on the move is very likely. i am glad he took a few shots in pre season but now the bullets start to fly. also last year. our wide outs had issues getting open. we have our rookie in there,, but we will see if they are better or if its the same old s**t with those guys. sans kittle and our rookie cuz we know they can do the job
Richburg a go
The OL is not looking very good, the team will underperform this year if they continue like this.

We have the worst Gs and Cs in the league. Pathetic.
