The importance of scouting OL talent and developing young talent. Although, this is just run blocking...our strength.

Yup, agree. This is really important. As a coach, if they cant find and develop diamonds in the rough, then they will - sooner or later - be relegated to cap hell because they will be constantly overpaying for OLine talent. I think Bellicheat's had a lock on a Patriot dynasty because of his coaching. The only way to knock him off the mountain is get better coaches or become a better coach then Bellicheat.

We can run block, it's the pass blocking that we suck at.

Ask any QB what is one of the most important things to them....a great run game. People seem to just not get this. Look at the GB game last night. Couldn't run-block/run the ball and Rogers got destroyed.

When your offense becomes one-dimensional, the defense has won. Running the ball keeps teams honest and they can't just pin their ears back and get after the QB. Running the ball well means the QB DOESN'T get hit. Running the ball well allows for play-action, which is the bread and butter of Kyle's passing game. Running the ball well allows for Kyle to use the personnel he wants and forces defenses to play in a certain personnel, which equals advantage SF.

PP is also super important we all know that. IF SF can improve on the turnover ratio (like a lot) they won't be forced into obvious passing situations all yr. Hopefully improved skilled players will help with getting the ball out quickly and precisely as well.

We will see...I'm ready for some Niner football
Pats already moved on from Bodine.

Isn't at their standards? Takes 5 days for them to figure it out. Next!

No. He's slow footed as hell and pass blocks worse than Kilgore.

If the 49ers had traded draft picks for a guy and then cut him in under a week, people here would be losing their damn minds.

Oh yeah I know. I just remember people were upset we didn't make that move. It says a lot that the Pats waived him since he was brought in to challenge for the starting spot with Andrews out
The fact that we rank in the top 10 in money paid to the O line tells me it hasn't been neglected. It's more a problem with players not being able to pass protect. They just aren't asked to do that much in college anymore. Kyle is a strong believer in the running game so they find linemen that can run block. The problem is that it's getting harder every year to find guys that can run and pass block with the crazy Arena Football offenses that the colleges use.

Who cares as long as they keep trying to actually get better. My take. LOL

Yeah anytime you pay top dollar to a LT and C, that unit cost goes way up. Imagine if we had to pay McGlinchey at the same time.

But yeah you're right in terms of their collective weakness. Clearly.

Can we afford to burn capital just to burn it?

Reminds me of how the Pat's tossed Cassius Marsh. The Pats good quick player evaluations and move on, and really don't hold on to players they've evaluated that don't fit in their system. Unlike ShanaLynch who seem to hang on to players hoping and wishing they will get better or stay healthy, despite negative player evaluations. ShanaLynch, has to become more cold blooded like Bellicheat - in my opinion - in evaluating talent and letting talent go that doesn't measure up to what they need. Be it health-wise or in Cassius' case - bad system fit.

Yes you want to award players (and keep players) with good work ethic and good character because those are important for the team culture as a whole, but they have to be good athletes first, otherwise you defeat the whole purpose of the whole team -- which is to win NFL games. I think (in hindsight) they should have let Garnett go because (like Cassius) he was a bad system fit. Hopefully from here on in, they let go bad system fit players faster that they have in the past.

Ahhhhh, I love you, NC, but I'm calling BS on this one. You've been talking even since last year about investing heavily in the OL and how they haven't. You got all upset they didn't go spend 15 mil a year on Norwell.

Also, I pointed out a number of pages ago that they've acquired more OL than any other position group in an attempt to do exactly what you're saying and you keep saying it hasn't been any quality. You can't have both. Either the OL is a crapshoot and you keep taking shots and finding those diamonds in the rough or you don't. You've been acting like they just don't see the group as important yet they've invested more roster spots in that position group than any other trying to scout and develop young talent.
