Mills sign yet?

If the team is to sign him I would expect the signing to happen after week 1 so his salary won't be fully guaranteed for this whole season.

Mills played and started a lot of games in his career. He certainly didn't play well, but we aren't looking for a starting OT. What is concerning is that I heard he looked awful this preseason.

Looking awful is a good reason for getting released. If he's no better than the guys we have now, we might as well just pass. I thought he might be an upgrade - we'll have to see how it plays out.

Was tasked with starting at LT in the first preseason game a month ago... was his first action at LT in 10 years.

Give Mills, who last lined up at left tackle in a game when he was a freshman at Louisiana Tech a decade ago, points for effort and enthusiasm.

But deduct them all for execution.

It was a slog for him all night. Mills, signed by the Dolphins in May, looked like a guy playing out of position.

Mills, on the field for 38 out of a possible 74 offensive snaps, allowed multiple pressures, at least one sack and committed two holding penalties.

It's a cute phrase that keeps getting thrown around but is there any actual proof of this compared to any other position?

I'm actually asking everyone this because I see it all the time.

Is talent really any less these days or just less developed and refined due to the spread systems and players coming out early?

Sorry to be coming late to this party. Left-over honey-dos.

I will look for the link but I recall a conversation on this topic last year on NFLN, IIRC. The commentators agreed that there is less pro-ready OL talent coming out of college now than any other position...and has been that way for several years. The reason being the wide gap between the OL skill sets needed for an Air Raid offense and what the pros require.

I would cite the very few rookies who have come in and played well as proof. Perhaps the best OL in the past 5-8 years is Quinton Nelson and he was trained in a pro system by a guy who is now the OL for the Bears.

No need to apologize. Phoenix and I had a great conversation on it a few pages back. Feel free to keep it going if you like!

Yeah, when you look at the specific unit matchups, assuming no weird opening weekend anomaly, this game could be much closer than we think.

Boy that TB defense is pretty bad. near the bottom of the league vs the run/pass. Bowels will help BUT he's always wanted good man coverage from his CBs, they're awful there.

They have awful pass rushers as well.

Their defensive personnel is pretty bad? Bowles will get the most out of them and try and hide the holes but talent is talent. It sounds like if we can handle their DL and establish the run/PA, big plays could happen in the passing game?

Harris Barton and Jesse Sapolu coming in later this week.

I guess he now just looked at the depth chart and realized our depth is pretty s**tty.

No. Just no. I'm calling BS on that. You can't sit here and say they haven't prioritized something and they lucked into good players. No.

Everyone pretty much agrees the draft is more art than science. If it wasn't, BW wouldn't have chose Gio over Tom. If it wasn't, UDFA's making teams or busts wouldn't even be a thing. I'm sorry but when you're trading and signing top guys (Jeremy Zuttah was traded for 2 months after he played in the pro bowl, Jonathan Cooper coming off a great season in DAL, Weston Richburg, highest graded center in FA and large contract, Mike McGlinchey first tackle off the board) you can't say it was outright neglect or even mild neglect.

2016 ShanaLynch weren't even here. So, just take that one off.

2016 is for YOY purposes.

TE? They spent a 5th on that position. That is NOT prioritizing it. The dude turned out to be a stud so they no longer have that need position TO prioritize.

It's all in black and white for you...not sure if you're just struggling with the definition of prioritization, neglect or something else? I mean, it clearly shows the Richburg and McGlinchey year was a priority year.

Zuttah and Cooper were standard moneyball picks coming off big injuries and hoping they could stick. And their compensation backed that up. Both cut as quickly as signed. Now, if they were 100% healthy coming off a stellar season and we were bidding for them in FA against other teams, sure, clearly they're making that position a priority...like McKinnon and Juice.
