Well. We know how Cohn is ...

On rare occasions he's good and other's he just goes way, way, way off the grid with his reporting. It gets so emotional and unhinged.

And personal. Remember that spat with Anthony Davis? Maybe it's best he doesn't cover the o-line lol.

I'm really confused by what's going on with the OL

why not get Brandon Thomas 1st team reps at RG in a game?.. and now he's back to LG because we only had him at RG because he was still working through his injury? seems weird. And I still think he's probably our best RT on the team other than Staley and Boone obviously - or if he's meant to be a LG (like we all thought when he was drafted), give him a shot at LG and stick Boone at RT

And I wanna see Dillon Farrell at C with the 1s

Devey was awful at RG in NE, but gave up zero pressure at RT, albeit in a small sample size - but he's getting a shot at RG

why are we tinkering around with the C/RG spots but not RT? Did something happen off the field in Europe where Tomsula really owes Pears a favor?

It really is a shame Kilgore had a set-back

I really think they are giving everyone a look with the 1st team and see who playes the best. Hence silbermans run with the 1st team in practice. I have a strong feeling that most of those sacks last game were due to poor calls by Looney at C which is why I think they will move Martin back to C until Kilgore comes back. Clearly they don't think Looney is good enough to start at Guard. I think the starting RG spot will come down to Thomas, Silberman, and Devey.
When the hell is Kilgore coming back?

This. It's been a while since we had 2 positions on the line open for competition, so people are confused with what's going on, but it's pretty simple. It's an open competition and everyone is getting a look.

Looney and Martin have been getting the most reps at C and RG, respectively, so they are the favorites at that spot. It's NOT set in stone. The coaches are continuing to rotate guys in the 1st team to find the best combination. It could be Looney/Martin, Martin/Thomas, Martin/Silberman, whatever. It's all a possibility.

I think Thomas is still not back from the injury, I am hoping he makes an impact by the mid way point.

Nobody knows. He's still in a walking boot which probably means at least a month. In my estimation if the coaching/training staff can't determine Kilgore will be ready by at least 4th game of the season they'll probably just keep him on PUP and he won't be available until after week 6 of the season.

Coaches have stated repeatedly that players would be in and out as they wanted to see as many player combination as possible. With Kilgore still in the mix it may not matter who starts at center in preseason games. I with ninerfan4life in wondering how he's doing?

I think they'll wait until the last possible moment to decide whether to put him on PUP or not. They'll monitor his health up until then. If they think he can be back rather soon, they may start the season with him on the 53. If he needs time, put him on PUP.

Sounds right!
The OLine is a weakness for this team. Obvious to some, while others feel we will be fine regardless.

Can anything be done between now and gameday? This is where the coaching comes in...how to make the best of what is available.
Would Kaep be running more by design, or because he is compelled to?
Time will tell.

yeah we don't seem to be in a rush to open up the roster spot either, I think we've only had 89 players since the Carrier trade

and actually, I don't mean to get off topic, but I'm little surprised we haven't had a whole lot of transactions at the bottom of the roster - Shawn Lemon (Aldon Smith cut) and Jordan Devey (trade) and I think those are the only new players since the start of camp

This is due to the overall depth of the team. They had so many guys redshirted last year who are stepping up that the only guys with a chance to matter would be cut by teams late in preseason. I could still see them pick up a guy late if they're not completely sold on guys like Brown or Moody/Skov.

dtg_9er, can you post the PFF grades for the OLmen vs DAL? I'm very curious how BThomas graded out.
