No that wasn't the original plan, but it's scary to me and questionable that was even considered as a option IMHO. I'm just thankful McG didn't get hurt even doing that given he'd never played the position before against one of the best Ds in the NFL.

This is when I started to say "now wait a damn minute..."

They need to get this OL situation fixed now. IMHO.
The alternative to putting McG at guard may have been putting Gilliam at guard. Gilliam is already questionable at his primary position (OT) so perhaps forcing the better player (McG) to adjust was the lesser of two evils.

Durability. This team is certainly thinking it when you read Lynch's quote about why we cut Attouchu (sp). We were certainly thinking about that when we traded for one OT and signed another because we were very worried about Gilliam. Cooper, Garnett, Person and Magnusson; that was the plan for covering RG. Cooper and Garnett both coming off injuries hoping they would be strong, with a lot of reservation(s) about Cooper. Person as you so nicely put it was supposed to be the BU OC, not the starting RG. When Magnusson goes down, why not make moves to bolster RG? Particularly when that guy is playing next to your rookie protecting your greatest investment?

For this season, they need to come up with a reliable answer and just as we're scouring the street for a LB because clearly there's concern about Foster and Smith even after they return, my not the same urgency at RG?

Those I think are perfectly reasonable questions and not an "over-reaction." Just my 2 cents.

Not over reaction to question decisions, particularly when they don't work. Over reaction is to assume they don't have a plan and/or are inept. Way too early for that. My guess is that they had a plan that had Person, who had played in Shanahan's offense, as a backup plan, and Garnett/Tomlinson as the plan A. When you have your starter and his backup both go down in a game it never works out well. Especially when the team you are playing is one of the best.

Most people agree that a 4-4 record to being the season would be a great start. They just lost to the best team they will play in the first 8 games. So nothing unexpected so far and they were in the game but for a few plays.

Saleh will say they're good to go. 24 hours later, Kyle will announce both are on I.R.

I always thought it was risky to dress 7OL. That's the one position group you don't want to force players into playing out of position. Lose a few WRs in a game, just use more TEs. Lose 2 TEs use more WRs, lose CBs use safeties, lose too may OL and now players are shuffled and out of position. The 49ers were one OL injury away from putting Celek/Kittle at OL, maybe a DLman at OL? Now that's scary.

I must admit this made me chuckle. The best jokes are always rooted in some truth. When Garnett got carted off yesterday I was shaking my damn head. That was weak, and reminiscent of when Dwayne Wade was taken of the court in a wheelchair for a hurt shoulder ... lol. I have been a supporter of Garnett so far, but my support is starting to wear thin. It is looking like he just does not have the toughness to play in this league.

We're already using Mitchell as a FB. Might as well give him a look at guard at this point.

speaking of bad calls by the coach yesterday. lets hope they learned
We just do not spend enough resource on the O line. And, Davis/Iupati excepting, we never seem to. Very nice to pick up other team's cast offs but it often doesnt work. The 2 lines are fundamental and I have no idea why we never treat the O as we should.

Same. When he got injured in TC and be absent for 2 weeks I was sure that he would be cut asap. Perhaps they will bring Austin Pasztor who knows Shanahan offense back in CLE/ATL stints.
