Our guards are the hot topic here, but how do you feel about our depth at tackle? I wasn't crazy about it last season. If one of our starters goes down, do we have a decent backup?

So I still have questions.

Is Tomlinson locked in at LG?

Will RT MM be able to adjust quickly to the NFL or does he need some help from an experienced RG?

Will Cooper be fully recovered AND in shape for training camp? How long will it take for him to learn and adjust to shanny's offense?

Is Garnett going to be ready or would he benefit from playing next to an experienced tackle--like Staley?

Does it make sense to try to balance the strength of the o-line by moving some of the experience--at LG--to RG and moving some of the lesser experience--at RG--to LG? Would that make things easier for Richburg who's got his own inexperience in shanny's system to overcome?

Is it a waste of time even thinking about this stuff?

OND

This is exactly where I am. IMHO, the interior OL is not a settled matter whatsoever. We're not even sure how good Richburg will be because he too technically is coming off of injury.
I agree--changing some of the personnel is just the start of the process of reshaping the o-line--and the exact alignment of that personnel is not yet settled, imho.

But the good news is that they've added depth all across the 0-line, and jettisoned some guys that did not fit the scheme or the culture they want to build upon. They've got the parts, now they have to precisely assemble them, then they can fine tune the machine--the engine that propels the entire offense.

Well, basically we are talking Magnus here. He supposedly can play OG/C/ OT, and it is nice to have a guy like that,, but as i asked earlier, is he a jack of all trades, or a master of none?? We don't know this until PS and then we see. Unlike most team who show little in the PS, we need this PS and need it badly. virtual complete overhaul of team except for Joe and Buck. The rest basically are 51 new guys since opening of 2017 season as JL and kyle as GM/HC. So we need that PT together and nowhere do we need it like OL. But same could be said for DBs, LBs, new receivers, both Pettis and Jet.

Don't forget Gilliam and that UDFA last year--Williams--who showed some promise. And I think there are some under the radar guys off the practice squad and UDFA.

Then like doc says, there's Magnuson.

And while we're at it, could Garnett play RT in a pinch? He's got the size and strength--tho it seems like he needs to work on his technique against ERs who rely on bull-rush moves. But Beadles played RT last year and Garnett is a better athlete. imho

I don't think Garnett has the length to play RT. Which is why I think Garnett very could be cut. Said this a long time ago too and people thought I was crazy
TC and pre-season will be the acid test.

Also, there may be a cap casualty from another team that's worth looking at.

Yeah, they better gel quickly. Like Hero/thl noted, right out of the gate:

In the first 3 games, they'll face Everson Griffen, Linval Joseph, Danielle Hunter, Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram, Danielle Hunter, Chris Jones, Justin Houston, etc. Add in the 5th game and it'll be the MGolden/CJones edge tandem in ARI.

I hope they find out quickly who is the guy at RG. There is a lot to be said for cohesion and knowing the guy to the left and right of you.

McGlinchey vs Bosa is the matchup I can't wait to see.

Just hang in there, big fella. It's going to be a long day.

One thing I learned coaching HS basketball--whenever we faced a strong opponent in an important game, it was better to start out with a full court press because that made the guys forget their nerves and shifted the pressure onto the opponent.

With the o-line I could see shanny starting out with the running game--getting the o-line moving and hitting the defense in the mouth til they're back on their heels--then shifting to using play action, etc.

Shanny's brilliance as an OC can begin to be seen in how he's not just remolded the o-line, but he's also added to the RB corps. I look forward to seeing this offense in action against the Vikings etc. cause I think shanny's gonna have them primed and ready. Bring 'em on--the bigger the better.

jimmy getting hurt is a helluva price to pay as they "jell", this line has been and still is a huge question mark and is the key to us having 8 or 9 wins at best or getting jimmy hurt and looking at 5 or 6 wins

For real...welcome to the NFL. You get to face Joey Bosa. Good luck!

You're still on the Jimmy getting hurt bandwagon?? I thought you would have given that up months ago.

47,000 posts from you and 45,000 are about Jimmy getting hurt.

But wait, a 4th round rookie would have fixed everything right??

what was lost in the translation of the snark from a certain poster. is that cc is right even if some are in denial. if the o line keeps jimmy up right we can win 8 or 9 games. if it does not and he gets hurt and cj comes in. 4 or 5 wins. of course you can say that for most teams in the nfl and their qb situation but i only concern my self with the niners

News flash! if the Oline sucks we don't win! No one knew this! In a second bit of news if the starting QB goes down we will have a worse record than if he starts for all 16 games! Shocker!

Anything is possible for us to lose!

Kodak on strike, no film at 11!
