It is indeed near unstoppable, but it does hinge on a chop block on the defensive end.

A high low block that creates a pile at the end of the LOS, the tackle, the D end, and tight end form a pile that makes the defensive linemen I pursuit to clog the line backers lane, forcing the linebackers to take a wider angle of persuit.

This combined with good blocking from the fullback and two pulling guards insures the defenses first clean shot at the runner occurs 4-5 yards down field.

can't really run it as well anymore.

The high low is probably the most dangerous block in football. My grandfather stopped playing football 100 years ago when his best friend was killed due to broken neck and back on the field. That was during the pre-NLF days of wildcat football in the midwest. He realized that the audience loved it and that was the end of his career. $10 bucks a game if memory serves me correctly. That was a lot of money back then.

Are you calling me old! Pistols behind the horse stables at dawn it is! I will have my satisfaction, choose a fine second, and make arrangements with the local undertaker!

Whats this you say, they've out lawed dueling! Dash-it all, then fisticuffs it is, I shall apply quite a thrashing!

If, not cool story! Football was once a death sport!

Yes, but I prefer rapiers on the high wire! No laws against that! LOL!

High wire is fine, as long as you kids stay off my lawn!

I believe this unit WILL(keyword) be the most improved unit and become one of our strengths on our team. 4 first round talents, and 1 second round pick as starters with great coaching will do some wonders.

Hope so! The key will be for them to jell quickly and improve the mobility of the unit. I recall Boone getting around the corner so slowly that he often had no one to block...or just stood their waiting. Drove me crazy. At least the other guys tried to hit someone. Never understood Boone becauses he seemed to get some things but was totally lost at others. Not a dumb guy from what I've read so...

I love the speed of our Linemen. I can see a fake toss wrongfooting very quick D Linemen and our Linemen just positions their body in front of them as McKinnon cuts back against the grain for a good chunk of yards. Overly aggressive defenses are going to die due to Kyle's misdirection plays. Screens and draws are going to be the perfect answer to defenses trying to knock out Jimmy. On paper, this O Line should be able to outflank the defense to the edges and free up guys like Brieda and McKinnon for large gains. I am so looking forward to how the O Linemen are getting their timing and synchronicities down during preseason.

God yes!

Let Shanny do Shanny.

Rewatched the Texans game, man were lucky Jimmy survived. Kilgore, Beadles and Fusco really sucked it up and were giving free passes to the dline on some snaps.

Yes sir...took a massive shot to the face. No Brady call either.

To me Fusco made the others look practically dominant.
More than anything - it is still my Biggest concern.

Not so much for me. Trent had the injury and barely played for Jimmy G. MM is a huge upgrade over Beadles. I expect a huge leap in the o line this year. Garnett will earn a spot.

This response does not compute. Yes there have been changes made. Yes the weakest link is now gone and the C position should be much better. We have a rookie starting at RT who's not really known for is pass blocking and is going to take some time. Our G's are either proven bad, or unknowns. Staley while studly, is another year older. IMO the Oline is the biggest question mark on the team going into the season. I feel pretty good elsewhere.

This. OL and ER will determine where we go this year.

We can't expect a rookie like MM to pass protect like Brown; defenses rush their best ER's from both sides. IF he can add more in the running game while also getting in the same area code for pass protection, that would be a huge get.

Richburg has monster talent but it took Kilgore 3/4 of the year to get all the assignments down; it'll take him half the year at least before he can just play.

Tomlinson, Garnert and Cooper have all proven at one time or another, they blow and have come nowhere close to their draft status. A lot of "faith" is being thrown at those 3 with not much evidence to warrant that faith.

Staley has been dealing with nagging injuries for years now.

The depth is certainly better though.

Richburg is one of the best pass-blocking centers in the league...I think people forgot how important the center is on the OL. Staley is a yr old BUT has stated over and over this is the most excited he's been to play football, once JG took over his overall grades skyrocketed. Joe isn't some 330+ Lb lineman which helps with staying in shape and being able to be consistent late into his career.

Mcglinchey while not a rock at pass-blocking wasn't trash in that regard either. Unlike a lot of young OTs dude has technique and played in a pro-style scheme. He's gotta get a little strong but he's a MASSIVE upgrade to Beadles (who was the RT for just about all of JG's games as a starter).

SF has 3 first rd picks at OG. I looked back at Cooper's film last yr (from what I could see) and he had some solid play overall. Tomlinson IMO is the guy I'm not to thrilled about, but I thought he had his moments of improvement last yr. I think Josh will have a rebound yr now that he's healthy and in shape.

I'm always optimistic, you don't need HOF play at all 5 positions on the OL and there's no way you can say they didn't upgrade the line overall from last yr.

Thanks!

I'm with you on this, it isn't even close, this isn't an upgrade it's a complete overhaul!

This line more athletic, and will be more aggressive in the run game.

This line, once it gels will allow Shannahan to go deeper into his play book.

Just get ready for all the negative nancies to come out if this line struggles the first few games as it build chemistry, but be ready down the back stretch of the season when these guys get it together.

Issue is Brown never played with JG ( maybe some of the Bears game?) They had Beadles as the RT and well we scored pts regardless. MM is a MASSIVE upgrade to Beadles. People hate on MM pass-blocking (I did at first) BUT overall he's not bad at it. He's gonna have road bumps, but he's a pretty clean prospect considering the OTs that are coming out of college now. Dude is battle tested 3 yr starter with a pro-style scheme (and a great OL coach in ND). I remember people poo pooing on Ryan Ramczyk last yr saying he wasn't strong enough to hold up in pass-blocking. Welp he turned out fine, especially with a good QB.

Honestly who cares how long it took Kilgore to learn the protections? Richburg is a much much better player overall and was the 43rd pick in the draft for a reason. Not everyone processes info the same. Took Matt Ryan a yr to learn kyle's system and JG was looking like he got it much much quicker. I'm not worried about our center at all.

also, not sure how you can say Garnett has proven he blows? Because he played poorly under chip kelly?? What? Guess what Staley sucked a fat one under Kelly as well SO he must be a trash? System and QB are huge for a OL. It's not like Kyle has had a bunch of HOF guards his whole time as a OC

We don't need 5 HOF players on the OL to have a successful offense.
