I'm hoping Shelton beats out Person, but this is a likely scenario.

Yeah, I hope Shelton takes the spot behind Richburg, too.

Perhaps Person gonna be our new Zane (meaning versatility) but with better results / more upside...
Hope this oline comes together & helps keep Jimmy G upright & clean each & every game.

Let's say the rookie RT isn't (I think he will be ready) ready and we have to go with Gilliam again, and the guard positions up for grabs (still no Zane so that's either a plus or same production from next man up imo).

That's still looks/sounds better than last year's lineup.

HOWEVER

JG won five straight last year and should do better with this oline. He has the whole offseason with more familiarity of the system. PLUS, he got new weapons, 2nd year players who weren't bad as rookies and Garcon returning. Jimmy doesn't need a top 5 oline, he only needs a decent one...

i love our center and i love the junk we got rid of. not sure if its enough to elevate things but they have taken steps to address this before the season starts which is something the idiots before them were either unable or unwilling to do
Without a dedicated long snapper, you might go crazy

Yeah I feel u, the skepticism is still lingering around because of the past mistakes / garbage production. The positives outweigh the negatives tho..Shanny's scheme and JG with more weapons. The defense is still a big question mark, particularly ER and linebackers. We shall see how it all pans out. I do think the oline will be improved in 2nd year with this staff. I hope a lot, but not holding my breath.

LT: Joe Staley; Garry Gilliam
LG: Josh Garnett; Laken Tomlinson
C: Weston Richburg; Erik Magnuson
RG: Jonathan Cooper;
RT: Mike McGlinchey;

Will have a lot of long sustained drives and a lot of first downs and rushing attempts

My predictions
J McKinnon ........1000+ yards ... 230 att 4.6 ypa (14 rushes per game)
Matt Breida.......... 600+ yards ....130 rushes 4.7 ypa (8 rushes per game)
Joe Williams ....... 500+ yards ....110 rushes 4.7 ypa (7 rushes per game)

~500 rushing attempts this year total
~31 rushing attempts per game avg
We are top 3 in the NFL with ~2150+ rushing yards!!!

So, is Williams on the PS? I like how Garnett has lost the weight. Cooper was a top ten pick and finally figured it out a several years into his career. I think Tomlinson is the same -- he's bounced around a little but has talent.

I think the rushing yards, actually, will be more evenly distributed. I don't think McKinnon will break 1000 yards but he will have a lot of receiving yards. I could see 700, 700, 700 honestly.

Yea true considering Weston's injury history. But still Weston is a massive improvement over Kilgore. We're great there if he stays healthy.

Coaching + Maturing + Attitude = Possibility of a very good OL.

Since OL is one of the positions that require development I see no reason to be gloomy. Shanahan doesn't want to fail and you can bet he has done his best to create a strong OL.

Mike Person will be the backup Center and Guard. He'll make the team with his versatility to play all the OLine positions at a decent level.

Shelton will be nice depth behind Weston.

I think so too. T included. Shelton is intriguing. He has to beat out person or Magnuson is my guess.

True. Shelton is very intriguing, but I think he'll be on the PS unless he balls out and beats Magnuson or Person who I think will both make the team because of their versatility.

Shelton was projected by some as a 3rd/4th round pick. Nice signing!
