LOT: Joe Staley; Garry Gilliam
LG: Laken Tomlinson; Erik Magnuson
C: Weston Richburg; Mike Person
RG: Joshua Garnett; Jonathan Cooper
ROT: Mike McGlinchey

We don't even know if the rookie is ready to play!

You don't just throw a rookie in there when you have a $125 million dollar QB sitting back there. I think the rookie has to earn the job through mini camp and training camp before we just throw him in as a starter!

lol lets be real he's the starter. Sure the coaches will say that he needs to earn it and they might bake gilliam the starting RT but we all know who is going to be our starting RT week 1.

They did not spend a #9 pick on a guy who isn't thought to be a first year starter at RT. Then trading Brown made it even more clear that they hope he starts. But is it possible he needs a year? Sure. That's one of the fun things about football...you never know!

I think the above has the makings of a very good offensive line. Of all the squads, though, it seems that it typically takes the O line longer to gel together. There may be some speed bumps in the pre-season and possibly the first couple of games. (Hopefully the speed bump isn't the QB!)

On paper, this line looks very fast. I like that. I see Kyle's screen game going to another level with this kind of O Line.

If we don't have one, then it's fine, but I would be looking at next years draft for a guy who is a good LS, but also a good scheme fit for our O-line, that actually makes the roster as an O-lineman, and also offers us our LS when needed.

I'd rather have a TE be the long snapper. The rules say you can't run at the LS anymore, so you really don't need a O Lineman at that position. It would be nice to have a TE that can also Long Snap, but my understanding is that the LS is very very very very important to the kicking and punting game and they have to practice with the kicker and punter almost exclusvely so that there are no mistakes in that area. Because if there is, it's the equivalent of a turnover or worse, a easy 6.

My thoughts exactly. I haven't read anything on that front but this group is pretty damn good of keeping things close to the vest until the move is made.

I'm happy with what we have and want our LS to just practice his trade and not another (eg, TE) as well. You put your finger on it Giedi. One mistake = 6pts
Going the other way.. They pretty much leave LS alone so they don't get hurt. So if he is playing TE, eg, then he could get injured elsewhere. Also once he goes down you gotta finish the game and punts, FGs without him. It can get costly quickly.

This line looks mo-bile and hos-tile.

Opens up the whole playbook and will keep defensive coordinators up way past their bedtimes.

Yes, the O line and the running game should be a real strength!!! .........

LT: Joe Staley; Garry Gilliam
LG: Josh Garnett; Laken Tomlinson
C: Weston Richburg; Erik Magnuson
RG: Jonathan Cooper;
RT: Mike McGlinchey;

[Will probably only keep 8 on the 53 unless they find a good tackle (?Darrell Williams?) that they don't want to risk losing]

Exactly this. Nelson is actually a TE and could maybe play TE, but he's so valuable on ST that he's not risked playing a position. If the returns are removed from the game like they are talking about doing the team will be able to get those 3 roster spots freed up.
I like the physical potential of Jamar McGloster, it will be telling if he makes the PS that the coaches think they can get him up to a workable standard. He's incredibly raw and has some really bad habits.

LT: Joe Staley; Garry Gilliam
LG: Josh Garnett; Laken Tomlinson
C: Weston Richburg; Erik Magnuson
RG: Jonathan Cooper;
RT: Mike McGlinchey;

Will have a lot of long sustained drives and a lot of first downs and rushing attempts

My predictions
J McKinnon ........1000+ yards ... 230 att 4.6 ypa (14 rushes per game)
Matt Breida.......... 600+ yards ....130 rushes 4.7 ypa (8 rushes per game)
Joe Williams ....... 500+ yards ....110 rushes 4.7 ypa (7 rushes per game)

~500 rushing attempts this year total
~31 rushing attempts per game avg
We are top 3 in the NFL with ~2150+ rushing yards!!!

I like your OL lineup - I like how you got Garnett at LG not RG, think that's how it'll work out.

Yes, it's a very strong running team with Juice at FB and good TE blocking.
Running should open up the passing game so you can add in the 250+ yards per game passing (x 16 games = 4000 passing yards) we are in the top 5 offenses in the NFL !!! Will have over 6000+ yards! Next year pick up another WR and TE and OT. Yes, I am an optimist

Those are very realistic numbers.
With concussion concerns, injuries and wanting to see core players not hurt on kickoffs, why not suit all 53 on the roster and expand rosters to 63 players.

It's probably going that way.

lets get through mini camp first before we start to think we will keep dc guys up all night with our awesome sexy former first round guards who have never lived up to their billing

We upgraded the center and got rid of Zane. That improves the oline quite a bit. Let's say the rookie RT isn't (I think he will be ready) ready and we have to go with Gilliam again, and the guard positions up for grabs (still no Zane so that's either a plus or same production from next man up imo).

That's still looks/sounds better than last year's lineup.

HOWEVER

JG won five straight last year and should do better with this oline. He has the whole offseason with more familiarity of the system. PLUS, he got new weapons, 2nd year players who weren't bad as rookies and Garcon returning. Jimmy doesn't need a top 5 oline, he only needs a decent one...
