Agreed.

Originally posted by NCommand:Wow, Heroism...thanks for that! What made you tear up more, hearing the FO is working on an extension for Tomlinson or exercising Armstead's 5th year option? LOL.
Given our pre-draft player connections, G and C were way way down the line of needs and that proved to be true in the end. The FO was much higher on Tomlinson, Cooper, Garnett and Magnuson than the fans.
So for context, could we have gotten better?

From NFLDraftScout.com:
Shelton, who earned first-team All-Pac 12 honors as a senior, isn't the biggest or strongest center, but he is among the quickest. His mobility and technique will be appreciated by zone-blocking schemes. Possesses a short, stubby frame well-suited to playing in the interior. Best attribute may be his light feet and balance. Shuffles easily from left to right in pass protection and shows good quickness for the trap block and to get out and pull. Very competitive. Highly respected by teammates and the coaching staff for his work ethic, including time spent in the film room.

Originally posted by GoldBrick:Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'm totally good w/our Oline situation.
1) Jimmy. Great timing, super fast release. He moves well and keeps his eyes downfield when the pocket breaks down. There's a reason our oline looked way better w/him under center.
2) Weston. Huge upgrade at a critical position. His movement skills, and his ability to reach block and get to the second level are going to be huge. He will make our guards better.
3) Three first-rounders at guard. The talent is definitely there assuming they can put it all together over a full offseason. Garnett reshaped his body if not his game. Shanahan seems high on Tomlinson. Magnuson and Beadles are serviceable depth. Cooper hasn't lived up to his draft position, but won the starting job last year on a decent Dallas squad.
4) Tackle is on lock barring injuries. At 33, Joe was solid as ever last year—one of my all-time favorite niners. IDK of he's got the movement skills to be an elite LT, but McGlinchy is going to be a right-side rock for the next decade. Super impressed with this kid. My only concern is depth outside. Williams and Gilliam are below average. McGlich and Staley are the kind of dudes who play hurt, however, so fingers crossed.
5) Shanahan. Even if you aren't sold on his potential as a HC or talent evaluator yet, you can't debate this point: the dude knows how to scheme. Genius coordinators aren't always genius head coaches, but I for one trust Kyle to put his guys in the position to be successful. Man—it sure has been a long time since I've been able to say that about a niner HC.

Yes, it's an audio. John Lynch explains why they didn't pick up his fifth-year option and reveals that he's begun discussions with Laken's agents to work towards a long-term deal.
I thought Laken did well last year. Improved as the season wore on.

There was a run on interior linemen at the top of the second, so IMO, no—not at where we were drafting, which was also Shanahan's argument against drafting an edge.
In retrospect, I wouldn't have hated moving up for Noteboom in the third over Moore and Street because I don't love our tackle depth, but otherwise, I'm good w/who we have on the line.
Originally posted by Giedi:Wow, round 2 grades for the guards. Interesting. Other than Quentin Nelson, nobody else got picked in the first round at guard. Frank Ragnow and Billy Price went in the first round at C. At OT, Kolton Miller and Isaiah Winn went in the first. There was talent for sure at the O Line, but we only had one draft pick. I'm sure they could have traded down and have gotten more draft capital, but they zeroed in on Mcglinchey. Trent Brown must have really come back from vacation in terrible shape.
Originally posted by OnTheClock:In my opinion, the guys to watch the most along the OL are:
1. Garnett - can the change in body composition & learning from the sideline help him improve on what was a terrible rookie year in 2016?
2. Magnuson - shows signs of tremendous promise as an inside player. Seems to have starting potential there.
3. Shelton - one of the better UDFA pickups most people aren't talking about. Played every position along the Washington OL, starting 7 games at right tackle and a full season at left tackle before kicking inside as a junior playing games at both left and right guard. Moved to center his senior year and won his 2nd straight Washington Lineman of the Year award. The only major knock on him is "average" strength, which can be built to NFL standards by our training staff. Also, the strength is not as pivotal for the zone scheme as it is for power. I really, *really* like this kid's chances to make the team.
