Sounds like a hit.

So how do we fee about Connor Williams at G in our scheme? Seems like an ideal fit imo

Quite a few negatives on many of the top OL. NFL.com profile contains--
"I heard all about how good he was last year and then I turned on the tape and what I saw wasn't a first-rounder at all. I can go back to 2016, but who is he now? I have to know who he is and who he's going to be in three to five years. Scouting is projecting." -- NFL team personnel executive

Wynn sounds like a better player to move to OG but...hard to figure. Both are listed around the middle to bottom of the first round.

Agreed, Wynn for the win, will have to be creative to get him though, he's going late 1st-early 2nd.

Imagine the play flexibility with Staley-Wynn-Richburg!!!!!

No way Wynn gets past Seattle.

it's a shame. Wynn is my second favorite guard in this draft. Would love it if we somehow got him.

If you do not view Garnett as a Scheme fit prior to his intended transformation then neither is Nelson or Hernandez. They are more the mauling type of Guards on pulls and traps, which is not what Shanahan envisions. Sure they will be harder to bull rush on pass protection, but this limits what Shanahan can do scheme wise and play wise This is not to say Nelson isn't a talent, but consider, they could have gone after Norwell, a proven all pro commodity over a projected once in a life time talent but they didn't. Wynn is more of a scheme fit though.

I will give Garnett a chance since he is trying to transform himself to better fit the scheme. Cooper, I hope has turned the corner, maybe the coaching and schemes he were in were not good for him and that he is over any injury concerns. I am also high on Magnuson making strides after a year in the system and having transitioned from the Tackle position if I recall. LT, is a different matter and I don't see him as an emergency bu. People need to also remember, it is important for the OL people to develop cohesion from playing together, that is a bug deal.

Many people may have forgotten the Walsh days, when most of the OL especially the guards and centers were developed. Bob McK was the lynchpin to that success, god rest his soul.

So in as far as the draft, I think there is a great chance that even if nelson drops to us at nine, the team may not pick him, but field calls looking to milk it for high second, especially if the giants trade out from number two with the Bills.

So true about McKittrick, Wild Bill. I have missed him since the day he had to hang them up. That was the day our OL went south. And basically stayed south. With Donald and now Suh in LA, whew, we need to rethink the OL. Or at least try and prepare for it.
Oh, brother, when i saw Suh signed I just got a belly ache. Damn with Darnold that is going to be one hellacious DL. The really smart part was the two CBs. Of course it remains to be seen which one has a good several games and starts wanting to redo his contract...or something stupid like that ...or Suh making the same demand. Aside from that tho, the LA DL is going to be a tough nut. I am now thinking no matter what any of us think about the best OGs out there, Kyle is going to get the two that he likes best. But now he has to worry doubly about the inside pass rush. Because it will be brutal.

Just a first guess would be that Kyle schemes away from it..and quickly too. Quick hitters ...against the rams we are going to have to see some very adept play calling. On strength alone, they are going to be on hot load for us. Yikes.

Make sense to start. Tomlinson gets the veteran courtesy start at LG out of the gate, Cooper played last year replacing Fusco and Garnett coming into the fold. All three will get time at both G spots. Throw in a rookie and may the best two win.

I'm hoping we find a short yardage back for power schemes, maybe a Bo Scarbrough would work out, a 240 pound hammer up the middle, no running away from their strength on the defensive line, make em work and tire their asses out
We should not trade up for Nelson. Given our current situation and the lack of talent still existing in several key positions (G, LB without Foster and S), we should take BPA, whether its Roquan, Fitzpatrick or whoever can help us get over the hump.

Rams are SB or bust mode now, but there are also other good teams in the NFC, so we shouldnt get desperate and modify our draft and FA strategy just because they nailed it with the CBs and suh.

Agree here. They're positioning themselves for win-now. It could really backfire on them in a couple years. Teams that draft well, have a FQB and don't go crazy spending in FA are competitive year after year. The Pats haven't made it to the SB 8 times in 17 years because they won the off-season every year. They draft and develop and use FA to fill key holes with vets who bring a lot to the table.

True...I guess I was hoping to hear that OG would be a priority in the draft as well as a rookie or 2 will also be in play. I mean they probably still are, but I don't like this perception that somehow this is what they are going with.

I would go defense with the first pick and go guard in the second round.
