If you do not view Garnett as a Scheme fit prior to his intended transformation then neither is Nelson or Hernandez. They are more the mauling type of Guards on pulls and traps, which is not what Shanahan envisions. Sure they will be harder to bull rush on pass protection, but this limits what Shanahan can do scheme wise and play wise This is not to say Nelson isn't a talent, but consider, they could have gone after Norwell, a proven all pro commodity over a projected once in a life time talent but they didn't. Wynn is more of a scheme fit though.
I will give Garnett a chance since he is trying to transform himself to better fit the scheme. Cooper, I hope has turned the corner, maybe the coaching and schemes he were in were not good for him and that he is over any injury concerns. I am also high on Magnuson making strides after a year in the system and having transitioned from the Tackle position if I recall. LT, is a different matter and I don't see him as an emergency bu. People need to also remember, it is important for the OL people to develop cohesion from playing together, that is a bug deal.
Many people may have forgotten the Walsh days, when most of the OL especially the guards and centers were developed. Bob McK was the lynchpin to that success, god rest his soul.
So in as far as the draft, I think there is a great chance that even if nelson drops to us at nine, the team may not pick him, but field calls looking to milk it for high second, especially if the giants trade out from number two with the Bills.

While I agree with this, I think with T Brown, the positives (great pass protection) outweigh the negatives (lateral mobility). On every team, there are players that don't necessarily fit the scheme exactly but have skill sets that help the team win. In other words, no team is perfect. Needless to say, it will be very interesting to see what the Niners do with Brown long term. When you have a T that can pass protect like he can, that is a valuable asset.
Cheers!
I couldn't agree more.
unfortunately, trent is a liability in the running game

Meh, the short pass *is* Kyle's run game.

Much has been said about the guard position and the need for them to be mobile and quick to execute the outside zone read. Nothing has been said that I have read about the tackles. They just have to be mobile and athletic enough to protect against speed rushers although it probably is good if they can be. Kicking Trent inside makes no sense, that is part of the reason why Garnett I losing weight to get more mobile.
You guys got I backward.

When faced with big defensive linemen, smaller offensive linemen used to cut, or chop, now one of those blocks is banned, and the other is considered dirty.
I would like to see a line composed of athletic 285 pounders, and lots of pulling on running plays, and lots of boot action on passing, like in the old days. Wear them fatties out with three quarters of chasing left and right, then cram it down their fat winded throats in the fourth!
I've been binge watching old games from the glory days!
Those were the days when Walsh had his pick of small, quick zone OL because everyone was trending toward the huge power OLs. The niners line averaged around 260, and that was with their huge RT...Fahnhorst at 273! To put it in perspective, the lightest Redskin OL starter is Jones at 260, then C Bostic at 268. May and Grimm were right around 300.
Have to love mobile OL for Shanahan! Hope he can transform the OL quickly!
Edit: Somehow I see Brown being traded at some point. I like him but he is not a Shanahan type guy.

Rams will run double 3ts in nickel with Donald and Suh. Good luck to our guards.

Gotta keep them in base so 49ers can exploit those LBs. What are their names? Exactly.

Their line is concerning to say the very least.

I'm just hoping Suh is collecting checks at this point in his career. If he's rejuvenated due to being on a winning team now, ugh.

Good idea. It's incredibly helpful that Shanny's base personnel will be multiple next season with Juice and McKinnon.

If we dont land Nelson.. Trade down and get Hernández, both would kick their ass
U can tell the rams are concerned about Garoppolo

More like Both would feature Jimmy in one of your films...With our Guards peaking through the closet.
