I want to see them play like this against Seattle. I feel Macdonald knows how to attack our line better than whoever the Rams DC is and would use his weapons better.

McDonald operates on an entirely different philosophy. He attacks the offensive line blockers at the snap. His focus is to prevent the OL from getting into their blocking patterns. He then leaves it up to the back seven to clean everything up. He also values players like Nick Emmanwori who can play multiple positions. This allows him to bring all that pressure from so many different angles. I remember Purdy saying after the first time we played them that McDonald had "a crazy scheme."
There's a lot of defensive line holding also

Especially in Superbowls!
The 49er starting o line is not the problem. It never really has been. The lack of Depth on the o line is a big problem. When Trent Williams is hurt they have no young upcoming back up to replace him. If Jake Brendel is hurt they have not draft a back up Center endless your counting Carver Willis who was a tackle in collage. They developed Jaylon Moore and he was a nice backup OT. He moved on and they have not replaced him. I wish in last years draft they would have used a second or a third on a development OT or Center so he would be closer to playing now. but that is not the 49ers. They use 5th ,6th and 7th round and hope they can develop into good o line. I think using later round pick on o line is find if you have your starting 5 set with one or 2 of you backup set. If your missing a starter and not sure of backup I think they should use 1 or 2 second and third round pick on the o line depth. Skip drafting Jake Moody, Danny Grey and draft an O linemen. Please at some point draft a center.

Yup. Also no one is using 2nd rounders on OL to be backups.
They looked pretty good yesterday. Even Brendel and Colby weren't glaring to me. Some obvious overload blitzes, but Purdy handled it. They settled in well. Even some nice running lanes which was so absent last year. Fingers crossed they stay healthy and keep improving. I have been saying it for years, but when Purdy has a pocket he is deadly.

Brendel is ranked #4 among Center after two weeks. His PP is above average and RB average.

Colby is now #28 among 68 Guards. He was #40 after last week's game.

As you say, if they can stay healthy, Purdy and the O will have a fine year.
like i said before the season began, the oline isn't an issue, it's the dline, we need a pass rush and to stop the run consistently

lo and behold its been 2 weeks and i've been proven correct

Agree💯%, usually 5th, 6th and 7th rounders and all the way to undrafted, usually are considered backup and by extension the later they are picked the more developmental they are.

I think other teams use more second and third round picks on the o line when they feel they have a need. I do not thing the 49er ever feel they have any needs on the o line that can not be fixed with a 5th, 6th or 7th round draft pick. In the early round the 49er draft D line and a s**t ton of WR & RB.

When they have an opening they do they spent a top 2 on 2 Guards and a RT

The positions you're talking about have a rotation OL doesn't have one so your 5 starters are your 5 starters. We then spend late rounds on backup and developmental players they won't spend a high pick on a backup that won't see the field

After the show Purdy put on against Miami we should do everything we can to protect our investment in him so that he can carry the team. I'd spend the money on OG Nelson next year. Let the defense develop with young draftees selected high in the draft. You have to admit Shanahan's offense is very attractive to veteran free agents who want to win now. Think of Quenton Nelson as another Larry Allen signing and the effect his signing had on Frank Gore.

Please keep this up throughout the season OLINE.
