49ers Offensive Line

Funny how every reason the Niners fall short, it's always because the offensive line performance was poor, but outside of the 2021 offseason, little to no improvement.

maybe after the Eagles DLine kills us again, Shanahan and the FO will learn their lesson, but probably not

That is not entirely accurate. They replaced Banks with Burford, a good prospect who has not yet stayed healthy long enough to really perform up to expectations. Puni was a major win. They've developed McKivitz into a top 10 RT. Signed Bartch. Unfortunately, he has been injured. Brendel, the "zone's" favorite whipping boy, has improved and now in the top half of centers. It isn't like quality offensive linemen are just hanging from the lower branches waiting to be picked. As a group, it is the weak link on just about every team. Bo Nix, playing behind the Denver line ranked #1 overall, was sacked 22 times. Purdy and Jones combined were sacked 27 times, the same amount as Sam Darnold. Of QBs that played a full season, only Stafford and Caleb Williams were sacked less.

Right now we are all down as a result of the Seattle game but that was due in large part to Trent not being available. We still have a well-above average OL when everyone is healthy,

Having said that, restocking for depth and a future LT is a high priority.

The problem is Williams can't be counted on for much longer. Burford definitely needs to be replaced.

Williams is not a problem until he is. As I said above, we need to be looking for his replacement. I'm sure the FO has that in mind.

Yes, Burford is the weak link but I expect the team will hope he can begin the offseason healthy and stay that way to see what he can do on his natural left side play. For most of his career, he was on the right, away from where his college success came.

Ranked 5th best in the league? They are nowhere near Top 5 in the league. Maybe middle of the pack or a little better at best, and T. Williams continues to be a big reason for that.

That PFF 5th best ranking comes from the Niners playing teams like the Cardinals, Saints, Giants, Browns, Titans, and the fading Colts. When this OL plays against better teams having talented D-linemen (like Seattle), they get exposed big time. Unfortunately, we just saw in that last game how one-sided it can be (though missing Williams obviously didn't help).

Just found? He was drafted 4 years ago a regressed to the point they wanted to trade him and lost his starting position

You're wrong as usual he's back starting and just doesn't fit in the scheme of McDonald and is a free agent. But the Rams are the team to pick him up for next year

…And it doesn't matter if you have a down-field threat, if the quarterback doesn't have time to get it to them. It kind of works both ways.

The Bears played a similar schedule as the 49ers and wound up #3.

You play who you play and are graded accordingly.

Missing Trent was huge against Seattle. So was the lack of a downfield threat (Pearsall). That allowed MacDonald to commit 8 to the box much of the time, taking away the quick releases that take pressure off the OL.
