As you say, speed rushers give trouble to just about all tackles. For one thing, they are lighter and more agile than the heavier OTs so they have a physical advantage. Of course, that makes them vulnerable to running attacks. Other than the great Myles Garret and Greg Rousseau, no other Edge Defender is rated higher than just "above average" in run defense. So you pick your poison from a defensive POV.

Back to the original post, the fact that McKivitz is even mentioned in the same paragraph as Sewell is high praise. Sewell is the best overall tackle in the league, left or right, and it's not close.

Pepperidge Farm remembers the O line makes the QB and not the other way around.

Funny how the O line looks great with Purdy all the sudden. Must be witchcraft.

Which is why Tom Brady and Drew Brees consistently had top O-lines every single year with a mish mash of players.

When a QB can evade pressure and step up in the pocket and get rid of the ball it makes the Oline look much better than they actually are.

On a side note, we need to re-sign Burford. He has been very good at LG and is better and more reliable than Bartch.

agreed we have our starting 5 OL the OL is playing great you could argue C is still a need and can be upgraded i wouldnt disagree but it isnt something i would consider a major concern

Burfurd has found a home at LG

I definitely would look for someone big and strong yet also quick and agile. Even if our starting 5 is settled, we need to rebuild depth.

Need at least one more tackle, a center (that isn't undersized for once), and guard.
Oline is really becoming a strength

Hopefully he can keep it up if TW can't go this week. Things can be a little different once opposing defenses get to watch some film on a player. I remember Colby started out well against the Saints, but then opposing defenses realized he couldn't handle stunts well and they kept attacking him.

Burford is on a one year deal. So you know that now he's played well, he'll get a $100M contract in March.

I never understood why he wasn't always in the left, that was weird to me. His whole life he played left and struggled at right side in the nfl and we let him blow a Super Bowl for us. lol

At the time of his drafting, we had Trent Williams (obviously) and Aaron Banks. So the left side wasn't an option for him. Once Banks was gone, they were able to move him back (and he wasn't progressing as a RG). I'm not upset at the team for this because as soon as the opportunity presented itself, they moved him to the left side. He does have a year left and it will be interesting to see what happens. I can totally see why he wasn't offered any kind of extension prematurely because they didn't know how he'd look at LT or LG and he wasn't too hot at RG. But I wouldn't be shocked if some team through a absurd contract at him. Hopefully it won't come to that and that's one less thing we'd have to focus on in the draft (looking for a day 1 starter at LG).

Hennessy should be brought back. He played well. Pleasants looks to be a solid backup and is a RFA and should be back. We could do worse than Colby as a backup guard. Burford should be cheap to be brought back.

LT- Trent Williams / Austen Pleasants
LG- Spencer Burford / Connor Colby
C- Jake Brendel / Matt Hennessy
RG- Dominic Puni
RT- Colton McKivitz

That's a pretty good solid Oline and they play great in Shanahan's scheme
Pleasants is an ERFA.
Anyone have any data on how our o line has played since week 11 or so? I thought they looked really bad, especially in run blocking early on, but they've looked a lot better recently

He has even been solid on obvious passing downs lately. I give him crap but I'll give him his due- he's been playing very well.
