Time to return the favor. I'm sure some of the oline they cut will be better than what we keep on the bench at least.

And the colts defense.
i actually like our OL. it's solid and good at doing what we want to do, which is run the football. a QB who understands pre and post snap what is going on is gonna eliminate a lot of the negative plays of sacks and hits on the QB. so we have a high paid coach and soon a high paid QB and we ask those guys to make the O work and score points. can't have all pros at every single spot up and down the entire operation. now where we needed help is D and we got it in the draft. shanny can figure it out on O.

Yeah. It'll be amazing if Bartch makes it through the season. I hope one of the rookies will be ready if/when Bartch goes down.

Is he still downing those unreal protein shakes? He's going to need that and a lot of training/improvement

The 7 eggs and cottage cheese gotta be causing problems in the gut

There has been some discussion about needing Purdy to make more of the blocking calls rather than leaving it all up to Brendel. This says nothing about Brendel but it does say something about the QB being in position to see some things the Center cannot.

I don't know if this is a real discussion or not as we really don't know who is making all the calls. It only suggests that the two positions need to work together well to allow the OL to do their best.

That is my understanding - the protections are all on Brendel correct? And folks think Purdy can and should have that power as well? Or at least override/audible him etc.

That makes sense to me and I am not sure why Kyle doesn't do it like that. Apparently he didn't want to burden Jimmy G with that, but I would argue Richburg and Mack were way better centers than Brendel so he never had this issue before. I felt like many times last year their protections were incorrect. I would assume that's on Brendel? Really, Center is the one position I wished they upgraded.

Are we talking protection or audibles? The center should be the guy dictating the protection based on the look of the defense. Telling the other o lineman who they need to block and helping the qb identify the mike. Calling an audible to change the play should be on Brock and KS. And one thing that we can't tell is who really messed up the protection. Brendal could be calling the right protection but guys might no be executing. Hard for use to decipher that one. I really wished they upgraded Brendal.

I know Kyle's logic on giving the protection calls to the Center is it takes stuff of the QB's plate. Basically his job is to read the defense - recognize where the pressure is coming from and find the pressure beater answer on the play which is always built into the call.

The issue I have with that, and I'm just a dummy on the internet and not an NFL HC, is that while great in theory in big moments relies on the QB finding the answer quickly if the protection call by the Center isn't spot on.

To me I think it would be better for Brock in a key moment of the game to have that call himself, that way he understands where he's exposed on the play and I think that would make him react quicker. Who knows maybe i'm taking crazy pills but to me I'd rather have Brock have more say in his own protection than Brendel...

Someone smarter than me can add here but I think I read where Kyle calls two plays. Pass and run out of the same formation. Brock has the ability to can the original and switch to the other. Run to pass, pass to run. I don't think the offense gives Brock enough control to basically call a brand new pass call at the line or adjust the route by design. I believe we have option routes on some plays which requires QB and receiver to be on the same page in which one they're going to run.

But like I said...if Jalen Hurts is given this ability with the Eagles, why aren't we giving Brock that ability as well? I look at it as health insurance. You don't want to have to use it, but it's good to have if you need it.
Last chance for the O vets to prove themselves this year and that's probably including Trent. Next year I expect the team to load off in offense especially O'line at least the in first 2 days.

I hope so but as always it's going to depend on who's there when they pick. It's easy to know what the team needs but not always easy to get the right player. It sucks that in a year when they could have used one or two good O linemen it turned out to be a bad year. Next year they may not be picking as high.

The same thing happened when the were in position to get a good QB. They had the #1 pick back when they took Alex Smith but it was a bad year with only Smith and a still developing Rodgers going in the first round. Then we were in position to trade up and get a QB when the selected Lance. Another bad year for QBs. All but one have been no better than backups. Sometimes you just have to be lucky and have guys fall in your lap like we did with Bosa.
