This

That would have been the most heartbreaking ending if he doesn't make that fingertip tackle. I think the sack fumble on the next play kinda swallows up Eric's play in people's mind.

Yup and thank god the horse collar tackle wasn't a penalty then. The Cowboys would have been 1st & 10 at the 30.

I was with a large group of long-time Niner fans watching that game and the guy sitting next to me was a high-school friend. He and I had actually been at the playoff game against the Cowboys about 10 years earlier when they had come back to win the game even though they were 11 points down with 1:50 to go in the game. When everyone started jumping up and down screaming 'we're going to the Super Bowl' after 'the Catch', we just looked at each other and we both had the same thought - deja vu. And when Danny White immediately moved them up to mid field, I was pretty sure the Cowboys were going to break everyone's hearts again. Great throw, great catch, but in the end, thank you Eric Wright and Dwayne Board!

And Stuckey got the loose ball.

That's right. But, didn't Board grab the fumble? All I know is that I was in shock when it happened. People were going nuts and I was still just sitting there looking at the TV. Couldn't believe they were finally getting there.
I love that the first Td of the game was also on sprint right option, it just went to the number 1 option. What Joe did on the 4th quarter was so special.

Here it is from the 1982 niners playbook...always loved how this example showed the scramble drill options of the play.

All of the above + Bill Walsh

This sounds like a perfect poll question! Who wants to start the thread? BTW Should Walsh be added to the list???
I just watched it again yesterday afternoon with my Dad. He is 90+years old and still yells at the TV during a game like that!

The same play was run against the Falcons earlier in the year except TE Charles Young made the catch

The whole team; The defense kept bailing out the offense until the offense could wrap it up
Lenvil Elliot & Freddie Solomon RIP

Yup
This was the first NFL game I watched. My dad , who was a Raiders fan at the time, told me after the game to "watch this guy Montana, he is gonna be good someday" . Ever since then I was a 49er fan. Funny thing is I never have rewatched this whole game from beginning to end since then. Whenever it has been on I always miss part of it.
