Justin Smith: Decision on future "not 100 percent"

Justin Smith today said he hasn't "100 percent" decided on his status for the 2015 season. The 49ers' veteran defensive lineman has another year remaining on his contract but is contemplating retirement.

"I'm going to decide by next week probably," Smith said. "So you'll know by then. It's not 100 percent."

The 14-year NFL veteran gave that quote between intervals of running up the side of Spartan Stadium on the San Jose State campus. Smith's rigorous workout regimen, which has included sessions at the 49ers facility, had encouraged some team officials that Smith perhaps would return for a 15th season.

Oh, dang. Justin has spoken and he seems to think that he has not made a decision, yet.

Clearly, Justin Smith is confused. I guess that he forgot to ask our local trolls for his latest thoughts.

He said this while doing his normal getting in shape off season workouts

Come on, guys. You know all of this is just to give us hope. When, in reality, everything we have seen this offseason is taking that hope and smashing in it in our faces lol.

When Patrick Willis and Justin Smith say they are retiring because they are not pleased with the 49ers coaches or front office, I will believe them.

No use pretending we know something that we do not know.

Players dont retire for wanting out, they demand trades

Unless, they're in the twilight of their careers and believe their windows have closed.

Buck, sometimes you have to read between the lines.
that explains Smith, but not willis

Of course Justin will backpedal a little, he's worked too damn hard to let twitter announce his retirement.

Since when is 30 "the twilight" for a 7 time Pro Bowl ILB?

Sometimes all that's between the lines is fiction.

And yeah I don't see us being a Playoff team right now, we are going to struggle on Defense.

Go ahead and blast me.

And yes I am a fan, and will watch, but I won't get heavily invested in them as I was from 2011-2014.

Nobody can say you aren't a fan AB.

They may very well have not been happy, but they are also fans of Tomsula. Justin in particular.

I think its become popular to attribute every negative thing to the first negative thing that happened this offseason.

IE, Willis retiring? Must be Tomsula. World Hunger? Must be Tomsula. Its just become the kneejerk reaction to everything.

I think the players are good with jimmy t. But i do think there is merit to players being upset about harbaugh firing and the way things are run by an organization. Some players just dont want to start over with a new coaching staff, they like things to feel familiar. Learning new playbooks or manginis defense, etc... Athletes all have their superstitions and rituals to get comfortable. With all the change that has happened to the 49ers their might be some hurt feelings.

I will also echo AB on excitement level. I love the niners and think about football way too much. With harbaugh as coach i enjoyed it. It was fun to watch and i enjoyed winning again. Now there has been so much change i just feel like we might have ruined a good thing. Hope i am wrong but i think its hard to be a solid team when there are so many new players and coaches. It takes time for players to get n sync.

Hopefully the team proves me wrong and the new players ball out like the gores and willis' etc...

you want us to go 4-12 so can not take anything seriously from you,, i hate to say that but it is what i have to do. no matter the record you should be invested in your team, the level should not matter when measure against the record but whatever.. never thought i would see this emerge from a guy like you

I'm not saying it is a fact, but a lot of people said Cowboy would return due to Tomsula being HC, but if he retires, some can wonder if Tomsula was the reason he retired, same for Willis.

By the time he decides, Aldon will be in prison, Torrey Smith will have decided to go to SEA, Hyde will have blown his knee out....and Justin Smith will still say he is still retiring

This feels much more realistic lol.

Willis isn't young, and a lot have even argued that he's passed his prime.

No, you don't. Guys play on awful teams all the time for far less than the money that Willis stood to make. He didn't want to play football anymore or he couldn't play anymore. Otherwise he would've demanded a trade. It's very straightforward.

1. No real competitor thinks that way. Only losers think that way.
2. Nobody leaves $8+ M on the table because they think the team might not be a contender.
Trent Baalke to Justin Smith and Patrick Willis: 'You two mofos are the best at your positions, but not a single ring bling to go with it. Get your heads out of your asses, hop on the Tomsula pornhub train. I expect you two be on the field come opening day. We're going to the Super Bowl getting the 6th.'

'Now GTFO of my office.'

See living proof that some of us, at least one of us, think we know more about what Justin Smith thinks than Justin Smith, himself, does.

What Justin Smith says about his plans has no real meaning in the world of Niner Talk.

Sometimes all that's between the lines is fiction.

30 is the "twilight" for a LB who has notched as many tackles as Willis. That's a LOT of hits.

Willis has his money, his wife, and a lot to his name. It's safe to say he's going to find as much success off the field as he does on it.

It's a wise decision.

Sir... The 49ers have only had 5 winning seasons in the last 15 years. So for 10 years I watched awful pathetic and embarrassing football. Sorry if I have other things to do beside watch a train wreck week after week.
