Willis and trade shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath. Willis has earned that 9 mill cap number.. he, Bowman and J Smith are the heart and soul of that defense.
He's earned the right to be back.
Not to mention.. Dez Bryant and D. Thomas will be franchise tagged mark my words.
Ain't happening bruh

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 18 Feb 2015
NFL notified teams today that it expects this year's salary cap to be between $140 and $143 million, at least $1.5M higher than projected.

Brooks is already out the door and they will probably try to renegotiate Stevie. I'd expect several more contract restructures as well to clear space.
My guess is Crabtree, Iupati and Brooks are gone. Gore and Justin are Niners for at least another year.
My thoughts too

I think were also going to free up cap space by restructuring Kap&some other lower level players on our team which could put us close to 20 MILL TOTAL.Take out give or take 6 MILL for rookie class? Still overall of 16 MILL free.
With our all injured players coming back from injuries, all our "Redshirts" from last years draft:Brandon Thomas(Potential starter @G),Trey Millard(Possibly faster version of Kuhn mixed W/Rathman),Kenneth Acker(Showed flash at CB),Keith Raeser(Potential Baalke Special at CB). Not to mention returns of Hunter/Cook
WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID, I love Willis dont get me wrong but he has a 9.2 hit&even if we dont trade him it would save us 9 mill total. With emergence of Borland, return of Bowman who IMO will come back just as strong&dominant player(See Thomas Davis, modern medicine),depth of Wilhoite+Moody/Skov/Rookie wed be more then good and thus making Willis expendable.
I believe this would be the perfect year to trade up&sign an impact field stretching/jack of all trades WR. Sign WR for 6 MILL, then youd have 10MILL for starting DE/CB.
Thoughts?

Stop being delusional. Having 13.7 MILL tied up at ILB positions in a 3-4 isnt smart. Period. We need to strengthen other areas. Borlands a beast,we can draft another ILB if youre not comfortable with Wilhoite being able to fill in. Moody isnt bad on blitzing&good ST player.
I don't think the idea is bad at all, and anyone on this board who doesn't think the Willis is a potential cap casualty is insane. Not saying he will be cut, but Trent has to take a strong look at it. For whatever reason, the posters on this board think that suggesting Willis will get cut equals Borland is better than Willis. Nobody who has ever watched a football game thinks Borland (at this point in his career) is better that Pat, but the fact remains Borland plus the cap savings may be better than Willis. Consider this.. if Trent cut Pat the Niners would save $7.8 annually ,probably close to what Jeremy Maclin/Torrey Smith will end up signing for. So I ask..would the starting lineup be better with Smith/Maclin and Borland or Willis and Ellington? Again- not saying this will or should happen, but it is worth considering

Trade Willis and one of our rivals (we'd be pissed as hell if it were Cawks) would do whatever it takes to snatch him up in a heart beat... the two games a year we'd have to play against Willis would be a nightmare (imo)

People are really entertaining the thought of trading Patrick WIllis in the prime of his career... you DO know you are talking about a future, 1st ballot HOFer with probably several more elite years left, right?
Iupati and Crabtree won't be back, Stevie Johnson will likely restructure or get cut, Ray McDonald is off the books and Gore might be a casualty of war.
Patrick Willis is worth every damn penny of his $9.2 deal. You save money by cutting or restructuring guys who DONT deserve what they are making, not by getting rid of your core nucleus.

Thank you. Im not saying Borland is as good as Willis. But in the SHORT TIME he plugged in,his rookie season, coming from the BIG10,playing alongside Wilhoite&injury plagued defense as whole(We all know all the players that were out, for how long, positions etc.). But hes gonna be in his second year and ready to start, and beast for us...along side a healthy Bowman,a damn near DPOY before his injury in NFCC.
http://espn.go.com/blog/san-francisco-49ers/post/_/id/12249/49ers-currently-over-expected-salary-cap Used this for reference to being over 6.6 mill.
http://overthecap.com/salary-cap/san-francisco-49ers/ For the numbers wed be saving and ive used of savings wed have after doing my suggestions.
Shows Willis would be 9,185,000 in savings if we released(2016 salary numbers).
All I know is these players are trade/releaseable and I would do it especially with draft picks involving wed get.
If we do get rid of 3 mentioned wed still have the following players before Free Agency/Draft. 15.5 Mill before reconstructucturing Kap&Others.Possibilities are endless.
Current OLBs- Aldon,Lynch,Lemon
Current DLs-Justin Smith,Tank,Dial,Jerrod-Eddie,Dorsey,Williams.
Current WRs-Boldin,Ellington,Patton
Current ILBs-Bowman,Borland,Moody,Skov
