Yeah. Although most coaches know this, but it takes a Brady throwing to receivers like Edelman and Amendola with precision and few mistakes. The way Brady beat the zone tonight was how Montana beat those Fangio's Saints back in the 80's - with many short underneath passes in the seams of zone.

Agreed. There are clear ways how to beat SEA on the whiteboard. Doing it on the field is a different story. NE's OL is not getting enough credit. SEA losing Avril to the concussion midgame was big.

But back to Logan. It is nice to hear him mention option routes from the slot WR. I hope Ellington (college point guard) can be that shifty slot WR with nice jukes.

Yes. Lots of positives on Logan IMHO. Loved the emphasis on 2-second throws against Maxwell outside and then in the seams inside between the CB and the S (esp. when lane was out - smart situational awareness). Passes to the RB's, etc. You just have to be very patient with the Seattle D. ALWAYS get 3-4 yards at least on first down, take what the defense gives you and take your calculated shots. Brady's maturity showed in this game...he got suckered in a couple times (got impatient; common for a gun slinger, so-to-speak) but eventually, he calmed down, stayed patient and closed.

I've watch the game three times now and I can say with confidence that we have the 90% of the roster to do exactly what the patriots did (we still need a combo RB/WR like Vereen, Woodhead, Duke Johnson, Harvin). And if you go to a Seahawk forum (like Seahawks.net) they will gladly tell you that QB's that make a lot of short passes and take what the defense gives them are what gives the Seattle D fits. In fact, a lot of people there predicted Alex Smith would pick them apart.

Brady did the same thing... Vereen had 11 catches. They used alignment and pre-snap motion to make Seattle declare the coverage then they went to the guy with the mismatch literally EVERYTIME. There were no complicated post-snap reads. Short Anointed Receiver throws all day.

The only guy they went deep to was Gronk when he was matched up against a LB or Safety.

As I've been saying, the idea of trying to beat Seattle by exploiting Richard Sherman deep is stupid. Hell, Lane or Maxwell don't even get beat that way.
That sucks. I guess they couldn't get this guy.....

Spot on. It's the same game plan we've known since Seattle started running Cover 3 mostly...for YEARS. They never change. Yet we try to attack them on the deep sidelines with Lloyd and Johnson, who coming into the game, had a collective 9 catches the previous 4 games. Genius!

That's the way you have to play it. Otherwise you're just sitting in the pocket waiting for the Seahawk pass rush to kill you.

It's such a switch mentally for many of these QB's who want to put everything on their own backs and "make a play." It's like golf...you can get amped-up, swing as hard as you can and hit the ball 10 feet. Or you can relax, swing smooth and let the club do the work and drive it 300 yards. It's that simple.
Brady had quite a good amout of time on most plays...although Bennett was a thorn. No other Seahawk really harrassed TB much. He was able to step up and find guys up the middle at will...wouldn't that be nice! Stork had his hands full, as mentioned, with Bennett but once they adjusted Brady had a clear field.

The thing that really upsets me is the 49ers offensive line makes the seahawks DL look like a pack of pro-bowlers.

So true! They just never got in sync for pass protection.
Feeling really good about this Logan hire.

Yes, I saw a number of designed throws (AR plays) from NE. The WR/RB caught the ball and there were already blockers engaged with blocks in front of him. Easy 5-7 yards. The biggest thing is the protection that Brady got though. That allowed the outisde WRs to run off the deep coverage defenders, then got isolation with their shifty WRs 1v1 across the middle underneath defenders.

The 49ers still need WR speed and pass protection to do what NE did. A HoF QB helps too.

Thats what happens when you make the QB the proverbial be all end all of a team.

QBs are blasted all the time in this forum, national media and the like for not being able to do more than necessary at any time while later being asked to change their mentality toward not trying to do too much. Just proves the QB position is as dependant upon others as any other position on the field.
Having watched a lot of game of Coach Logan and the ECU Pirates (I live in Greenville, NC where ECU is), I like the hire!

The protection Brady got was because the Seattle pass rushers had to adjust to all the quick throws. Bruce Irvin was cut on a bunch of plays so Brady could make short throws to the left and anytime the Seahawk DE's thought about using an outside speed rush the ball would come out just before they could get there. On a lot of plays the Seattle DL would just make contact with the OL and immediately try to jump or put his hands up to stop the quick pass.

It wasn't like the Patriots OL was just stonewalling guys.

Also note that the Pats don't have a deep threat WR. They have a bunch of Stevie Johnson's. Their guys win with short area quickness.
The type of guys that are better running slant and zig routes than streaks and posts. Hell, they didn't even catch any passes on digs (deep-ins) or outs.

Another thing is that they were running guys away from Kam Chancellor. They didn't want their little receivers taking hits.
