What is the most unfortunate turn of events in 49ers history?

Yorks own the team is the worst thing that ever happened to this organization in history. They have been absolute TOOLS for a decade or more. You just have to do the best you can with them. You have to fight your own team and all the other teams at the same time. That's really asking a lot. The Yorks have been an unmitigated disaster ever since they owned this team.
when craig fumbled. That turned this franchise for the worse. After that, this team has followed up big games by choking after choking after choking. That haven't done much since that fumble.
Eddie deciding he didn't want the 49ers anymore was the worst thing that ever happened to this team. As posted above we went from league darlings and a team that influenced goings on in the NFL to an NFL doormat under the Yorks. Sometimes I really hate Eddie D for making that choice, which of course conflicts with my love for him for everything before.

Firing Harbaugh? Meh. Hiring Tomsula? Meh. Getting rid of staff? Worrisome. No plan to replace? Suicidal.

Whoa there. It wasn't that Eddie didn't want the team. That whole situation was overblown. Its obvious the other league owners were on board with Eddie leaving and not coming back because they feared his 49ers. His punishment didn't fit the situation. He deserves to come back. He was forced to sell the team and it was BS!!!!
We traded for oj!?? Wtf?

In the end Eddie was given the choice. Real estate developement company in Florida or the 49ers. Eddie chose the real estate company, from his own mouth.

The Yorks had the 49ers dumped in their laps and are on record as expecting Eddie to choose the 49ers.
I say we start a kickstarter to buy the 49ers from the Yorks. Then we turn webzone HOF into the FO.

Next season is the perfect time for the Yorks to sell the team. New stadium and even if we suck in 2015 its proven that someone will over pay. See: Bills and Clippers.
Maybe it's our recent 3 winning seasons, without those maybe the Yorks would have had to sell. Back into the age of Yorks

SF lost them. The 49ers didnt leave. SF and its horribly retarded liberal politics couldnt get their crap together in 15+ years of time to give the 49ers a viable option for a new stadium.

The city screwed up, and the economically thriving south bay swooped in and got it done. SF has nobody to blame but themselves.

The majority of the fan base had been driving 45+ mins up the peninsula for the last 40+ years. I think SF fans can make that drive down.

There's a lot of truth there, yet somehow these same incompetent, retarded City leaders allowed the Giants to build a new stadium. Not quite sure why they were just picking on the 49ers.....
Interesting to see people calling out the choice of Alex Smith over Aaron Rodgers. This is obviously speculation, but I have a hard time believing Rodgers would be half the player he is now if his career started the same way Smith's did. You're comparing two mature products that took very different paths to get where they are now.

That said, I wanted Rodgers over Smith. I just don't see that choice as being such a monumental blunder. The team was a s**tshow back then. As far as I can tell, who we drafted wouldn't have mattered all that much.
