I don't track other teams much but it would be fun to try to objectively look at losses by other teams from a production standpoint. For instance, losing a guy like Torrey Smith and Shady McCoy are significant losses not just in numbers but in what they mean for the entire offense.

"Generally" a good thing, always exceptions. While I do agree with you never know how everything will gel. I do LOVE all the news coming out so far. Working on our previous weaknesses'.

I loved Tomsula's interview the other day on KNBR.

Love this...thank you Bali-Niner. I've been talking about "situational football" as being a HUGE issue for us over the years...so happy to hear that being addressed as well.

What needs to be better? What are some of the things that stood out that you'd like to really focus on once training camp begins?"Well, I think a continuation of some of the things you saw here with the situational football. We've just got to stay on it. Not that it's bad, but we've got to improve there. We've got to keep improving there. But, in every area, we have to improve in everything. Every area we've just got to keep getting better. Situationally, staying on top of that. That's been the emphasis here. And they're handling it real well right now. It's more of an introduction in three days, but we'll continue in that way and something every day."

You said that one of the aspects that you guys improved on was schematically. How much overhaul or did you have to blend in with the old scheme to the new scheme?"

Again, I'm staying away from, this isn't the old scheme. This is our scheme. This is the 49ers offensive schematic. It was installed. It's the 49ers defensive schematic, special teams schematic, player engagement schematic and we've installed them all and we own it and we're moving forward with it."

We're in this together, you da man.

It's nice having some positiveness in this thread right now. It's been a real drag opening up threads and seeing post after post of negativity and armchair GMs talking out their azz.. GO NINERS!!!

LMAO! Poor sus and his loyal band of followers.
I thought it might be a matter of time for the dust to settle and that the narrative would change from JT being a tool of a corrupt FO and a usurping court mole, to something more favorable: an mirror held up to the team with a clear record of past shortcomings, and a clear path to correct them.
The transition has probably been a lot smoother on the inside than people realize.
I'm sure the coaching search interviews with JT were powerfully drawn excercises in football details rather than a** kissing, as the defeatist line has towed.
Still just words coming out of camp right now, but the words support a positive change along this evolution. Until the games begin, we'll see.
There was a recent article pointing out that JT has been on the staff for a long time because he's been the best position coach on the team for all that time. What he's been able to see is the kind of things that work and the things that don't work. He's witnesses the failures first hand of both the winning and losing coaches.

On top of that, he's got a plethora of former HC's who have their own mistakes he can learn from, if he asks them about those. If I recall, Mangini stated that if Tomsula needs anything from him as far as Mangini's opinion based on his past experiences as HC, he's happy to lend JT his take, but at the same time he said he completely respects that this is JT's team and it's important we do things his way.

"I try to make life as easy as possible for him so that things that were challenges to me as a head coach, I want to make sure I'm not presenting those challenges to him," Mangini said. "My main focus is to be a resource, so if he needs anything or has a question, I'm happy to. But it's also important for Jim to do things his way. That's a lesson I learned."

Yup. Even on this message board, many regarded Tomsula as the best position coach on staff, easily. In the good times and bad, one thing was always consistent. The d-line consistently developed players.and performed at a high level.

I have NFL Rewind and have been watching many games over the past 5 seasons. ONE constant in almost every...single...game I have watched is the OVERWHELMING praise for Tomsula and how he is so respected and probably the best assistant coach in football and .

NOW...

He is such a huge question mark and how will guys respond and would he be fired if he fails and .

So the question becomes...if he is so respected and knowledgeable and is such a player's coach...why are there so many detractors from his recent promotion and why are there so many who predict instant failure?

This was a very awesome article and enjoyed Mangini's candor.

Agree and believe this is probably true of all the assistants, most of whom are past the point of ego driving for a HC job...been there, done that!

I haven't bought into the Steve Kerr comparisons but this is one area where it may apply...Tomsula will be fine taking ideas from anywhere and giving credit where it belongs. This builds respect and dedication among the staff members. Glad to see this article because Mangini was my greatest concern as far as ego issues are concerned.
