Without having to drop $80-90M on Aldon, youth movement, etc. we're in good shape. Just need to lock up Boone, restructure Brooks if we want etc. Not much left to lock up.

And for every other team, I fully support OverTheCap.com, he also has links to other websites that do 1 team like I do for NinersNation.com.

I think some would still want us to drop a lot to bring Aldon back, but I doubt that happens. Boone is a possibility, depends on who is HC and GM, and Brooks would, IMO, need to take a pay cut to return, unless they don't find a good replacement.

uhh, that article is so wrong, his contract won't de-escalate to $9.9M, if he were to have earned what is needed it would have went to $13.9M for 2016.

I swear, who authorizes Spotrac for the main page? These guys are nothing more than scammers, they ripped me off, and OTC off of their numbers. I hate them with a passion.

So it seems like we're all on the same page about a few things:

– ILB
– OL
– OLB/Pass Rush
– QB
– RB

Not to say we have a great WR corps, but those are our real pressing areas up top^. We have a lot of money and potentially even more if we let loose of Kap. The draft is the draft and we have to trust Baalke to do the right thing. This offseason though, he finally needs to put some real money into FA.

Pass Rush – Von Miller, Aldon Smith, Courtney Upshaw, Junior Galette
OL – Cordy Glenn, Andre Smith, Mitchell Schwartz, Kelechi Osemele, Brandon Brooks, Ramon Foster

These are just some names I noticed when looking at the FA list. I'm not saying we'll get all these guys. I'm just saying it'd be nice to approach all of them, come with some serious offers (aka use some of that cap space we have) and try to get those two areas resolved in FA. I'm especially concerned about OL. Regardless of whether it's Kap or someone else under center next year, I don't want our QB of the future doomed because of a lack of protection. Shore up the line and draft even more it.

Pass rush...I mean, Baalke has tried to hit on the draft with this – Lemonier and Harold immediately come to mind. Brooks' time is up with us most likely. I have no problem drafting for pass rush, but with some big names available next year, let's make a damn play for them.

On Defense i think we are close. We aren't deep at all, especially compared to where we were at this time last season, but I truly believe we will have a top 5 secondary within two seasons if we can get the pass rush fixed. On defense i think our needs are -1. OLB opposite of Lynch. 2. DL to pair with AA and Tank. 3. ILB next to Bowman. 4. Rebuild Depth.

On Offense you have to overhaul the entire oline outside of Staley. Outside of that we can easily upgrade the entire oline in the offseason and should. WR we have Smith as a weapon we can build around, outside of that i don't care if we keep any of them. Love Boldin but he is getting old. At TE we don't know what the hell we have. RB? We need two besides Hyde. QB? Yea that too. So the needs on offense are as follows-1. OT, 2. C, 3. G, 4 QB, 5. RB 6. WR, 7. TE.

Offense is where we need to be real active in FA and early in the draft. OT seems like the obvious choice early in the draft, But a OLB is a huge need as well. Sign Ryan Wendall(would play C), Muhammad Wilkersin, Alshon Jeffrey, Riley Rieff(move to RT) in FA and you start to really have something. You add a stud DE to the defense. Your oline ends up looking like Staley, Rookie, Wendall, Kilgore, Rieff. At WR your set long term with Smith and Jeffrey.

Doing that frees you up in the draft. You take OLB in the first, QB 2nd, 3rd/4th G/RB etc. It also puts the offense in a position to succeed imediately with a stop gap until the Rookie is ready to take over.

I think the priorities are about right. I'd argue ILB over DL though. The depth at DL is better than at ILB. Also, Bow isn't guaranteed to return to his old form.

I also think the secondary is promising: strong up the middle, solid depth on the outside.

I think OLB (Irvin/Aldon?) and OL (Mack/Smith/Glenn/Silatolu/etc..) can be targeted in FA. I'm crossing my fingers for Goff and Jack in the draft, but that's probably a dream; I think both will go in the first half of round 1.

I don't see this team being strong against the pass anytime soon even if we fix the pass rush. We currently have no linebackers who are good in coverage (Bowman is okay), and every player in our secondary is below average at their position. Reid is a couple concussions from retiring, we haven't seen whether Tartt is a capable starter yet, and our secondary has looked lost at times.

Our secondary has been getting way too much of a free pass on the webzone where a lot of posters are blaming our 32nd ranked defense (and T-27th ranked pass defense) entirely on the pass rush (wishful thinking that adding a pass rusher fixes this defense - we just have bad players on the defensive line, at linebacker, and in the secondary). Denver has an amazing pass rush, but they don't get pressure on the QB every play. When they don't get pressure, their corners still lock people up. We're nowhere near there right now and I don't think we have the personnel to get there eventually.

I agree with a lot of your rankings on needs. DL vs. ILB vs. OLB is a toss-up to me. A defensive lineman like Bosa/Nkemdiche could also help with the pass rush, and I would rather take one of them in the first round than an OLB. We need an ILB who can cover and a guy like Jaylon Smith would help us a lot against outside runs and in coverage. If Tartt doesn't pan out at safety and we don't address ILB in the draft, it may be interesting to see if he could play the role Deone Buchannon has played for the Cardinals when Bethea comes back. He's very undersized for a 3-4 ILB but so is Buchannon and they both like to hit.

If Boone leaves, then the #1 priority is OG/C. If not, it's OT. I expect him to go, so...

1. OG/C - Tiller looks good and deserves a shot, but Kilgore's health and the incompetence of everyone else makes this unit the weakest on the team.

2. OT - Davis is expected back, and is still under contract for the five year deal. I have to believe the cap hit of trading him would not be good... If he comes back in decent shape, there's no reason he can't win a starting job at RT or RG (but would he even accept playing OG? Davis is a hot-headed player).

3. QB - This is TBD, depending on how well Gabbert does the rest of the season. I think if he plays well enough to start the rest of the year, we will offer him another small extension and trade Kaepernick. If he bombs, we'll need to draft QB early, or trade for one.

4. OLB - We have no pass-rush outside of Lynch. Brooks is costing us too much, but if we don't have anyone better, he may stay by default. We need to sign a star rusher or draft one within the first three rounds, in my opinion.

5. WR - Plain and simple we need more playmakers. Game changers. Boldin wants to be back, but this team needs speed to beat these teams in the division. The ferocious pass rushes we face in this division means we need players who get open quicker. Simply put, as great as Boldin is, we should let him sign elsewhere in free agency and net the comp pick for next season (well, assuming it's not canceled out by a FA move we make).

6. DL - Armstead should be starting next year if not sooner, we need to pair him with another star. Dial has looked rock solid, but he's no Justin Smith. We need to continue to keep a strong DL rotation and I think we need to see what Purcell can do. Dorsey could be a bargaining chip in the off-season.

7. ILB - We need to see more of Hodges, but I've seen enough of Wilhoite. He's barely above mediocre on his good days, but terrible on his not so good days. Too many missed tackles. I would love another star next to Bowman like we had with Willis.

8. RB - Hyde's violent style is going to have him at risk. We need starter-caliber depth here in my opinion. If Draughn keeps looking solid, I'd keep him as veteran depth.

9. S/CB - Add developmental players here and ST contributors. ST needs more speed and tackling ability.

10. K - Groom one to take over for Dawson.

I would probably also add in some developmental TE talent and for insurance. McDonald should be relegated to #3 TE and strictly a blocking guy by next year. He'll have to compete hard to keep a roster spot. Just way too many drops.
