Terry is also a cherry picking stat douchebag: "They were 8-8 a year ago and now have some major holes to fill on defense, which was 28th in the NFL last year in stopping teams inside the 20." Our overall defense was top 10 last year and was not the reason we went 8-8.

It is always disconcerting when you "get young" like we were forced to do this year. If you are a glass is half full guy it is exciting as everyone is full of potential and all those young athletes flying around seems like a recipe for being far more dynamic.

If you are glass is half empty though...all those greats you know and love are no longer here and it is no sure thing the young kids are going to be anywhere near what those beloved figures were...on the field or off.

I vacillate...some days I am excited, some days worried. But I try and stay pragmatic...because truth is we wont know until they play a few games what we have here.

I hear you. The good news is that many of the new era players have already worked with these vets for years now and got extensive snaps last year (maybe even the year before) so the transition should be much smoother. Will they be HOF players like Justin, Gore and Willis? Probably not...but their production "should" be replaced rather easily with a committee approach and better scheme.

Patrick Willis - played 6 games one good one against the Cowboys will be filled by Navarro Bowman who if healthy is a DPOY candidate
Borland - was great, loved watching him play but he started 8 games. Bowman and Willhoite are a better linebacker duo than anything we put on the field last year.
Justin Smith - Darnell Dockett is an adequate replacement and it was obvious he wasn't right last year. Dial, Tank, Ian Williams, Dorsey and Armstead. that's a very good DL with a lot of depth. More than last year.
Culliver/Cox - Termanie Brock is better than both if healthy, Dantae Johnson looked good and Ward looked to be improving at the end of the year, Niners also high on Acker. Wright, Cook there for depth. Not much drop off if any here.

Bathea/Reid potential pro bowl players, really like what I see from Tarrt looks to just have "it"

Aldon Smith for an entire season, Lynch, Brooks, Lemonier and Eli Harold. That's a scary group of OLB.

The media and casual fans get so enamored with he names on the back of the jersey that have left, they don't realize they've been replaced, have a replacement waiting in the wings or have been let go for a reason. I really do like this roster better than last years.

LOVE the additions of Torrey Smith and Reggie Bush, stretch the field vertically and side to side, open it up for VD and Boldin. Hyde is gonna be a beast loved what I saw from him last year. The play calling and clock management can't get any worse. the Niners were 20th in offense and 25th in points last year. If that was 18th and 22nd they win the division.

Haha. The last point you made is key though and something I've brought up in the past as well...a rise to even average on offense (around 17th) while remaining top 5 defensively is the difference between 8 squeak-by-victories and 12 wins and a division title. Like Logan said...we already have the Corvette. It just needs to be taken down to the car wash, detailed and then sit back and enjoy the ride!

Agree...I'm feeling that the division will be down a bit from the past few year and Seattle is due to have some issues this year, though they did retain Lynch--darn it!

I'm wondering if they can use Harold to key on Wilson...he's very fast and tenacious. Aldon, Brooks and Lynch are really good OLBs but not quite quick enough to corral the wee QB.
