This. Context. It's 3rd and 20 and we're "going for it." For a 20+ yard play to be successful, CK needs 3+ seconds. He can't even hit his plant foot before he sees Staley's man pressuring (spooking him) AND another free DL coming right up the middle thanks to Iupati taking a nap on his BACK! Is Iupati the reason Boone is hurt? B/c he flew right into the back of the legs of Boone. Pathetic!
EXACTLY. That's what pisses me off about these Roman bashers calling for his head when we've ran it in this kind of situation. Most of (if not all) us have NO idea at the end of the day when it comes to what goes into play-calling. It's all about context, contextual play calling that fans easily miss. Sure, it's easy to say that play call "sucked" because it didn't work. And they may do the same thing if the call is successful. "Great call!" but you can't judge a call like that.. So much goes into play-calling regarding the gameplan, the situation, the objective of the play, the personnel groupings to create mismatches, calling a play to set up something up for LATER to assess how the defense reacts, etc... it's all so intricate.
it's why it pisses me off when I'm called a Roman ballwasher. I just try to be impartial and do the best I can to view our calls from an analytic perspective. have thl and jonny to thank for that now
