He was not good this season. But for rookie that was injured the first part of the season (unable to practice), very young, then thrust into action, I'll give him a pass. I don't see him get bull rushed and run over. When he messes up it's because the defender shed his block, which points to technique, not being overpowered.

Get Solari out of here and bring in a good Oline coach. Kilgore showed he can handle being the C. They can slide MMartin to guard until he can handle the cerebral aspect of being C.

^^^ agreed. 19 players on I.R.

It's genuinely hard to evaluate anyone this year objectively on offense. It really is. So many other factors contributing to poor play on the field.

Was that Patton running up alongside him?

Yeah that's Patton.

Yep. The same guy who hadn't seen the field even though we completely lacked any speed from the WR position. Think he could take the top off? After seeing that, I was even more OK with Harbaugh and Roman leaving.

He's probably the fastest player in football and one of the fastest men in the world. When he's at full speed he runs like Usain Bolt. I have no doubt he'd be a sub 10 second guy if he trained for it and he might be already anyway.

did you not see Patton catch up to him?

This. Context. It's 3rd and 20 and we're "going for it." For a 20+ yard play to be successful, CK needs 3+ seconds. He can't even hit his plant foot before he sees Staley's man pressuring (spooking him) AND another free DL coming right up the middle thanks to Iupati taking a nap on his BACK! Is Iupati the reason Boone is hurt? B/c he flew right into the back of the legs of Boone. Pathetic!

EXACTLY. That's what pisses me off about these Roman bashers calling for his head when we've ran it in this kind of situation. Most of (if not all) us have NO idea at the end of the day when it comes to what goes into play-calling. It's all about context, contextual play calling that fans easily miss. Sure, it's easy to say that play call "sucked" because it didn't work. And they may do the same thing if the call is successful. "Great call!" but you can't judge a call like that.. So much goes into play-calling regarding the gameplan, the situation, the objective of the play, the personnel groupings to create mismatches, calling a play to set up something up for LATER to assess how the defense reacts, etc... it's all so intricate.

it's why it pisses me off when I'm called a Roman ballwasher. I just try to be impartial and do the best I can to view our calls from an analytic perspective. have thl and jonny to thank for that now

Patton isn't running with the football and the angle helps him too. But judging from that play Patton is clearly faster than he's been given credit for too.

Patton has game speed. he breaks away from people regularly after the catch.

Wait, I like Patton, but when has he ever done this?

I've been accused of wanting to take a bath with Roman. Personally, I'd rather wash his balls. Although it depends on the thoroughness of the ball washing.

just off the top of my head.. last year preseason chargers..took a wr screen to the house.

last season when he finally got action against the cardinals took a short pass and ran for about 30 or 40.

this season the fumble, he actually caught the pass made a move and got 20 yards out of a 7 yard gain...and then fumbled.

I think anyone who hasn't said that Greg Roman was the beginning and end of all the 49ers offensive problems has been labeled a Roman ballwasher(the person - not the ancient society) at some point. Personally, if he'd be willing to let me look at his playbook while washing his balls, I'd make those things so shiny he could see himself in em!

If the 49ers next HC/OC/DC comes from the NFL, I'll do a thread that outlines their schemes. Just so we know what we may expect next season.
