Should they? Yes.
Will they? Likely Not.
#81 should be retired as well. Owens did so much for the 49ers. No respect.
Gore is the greatest 49ers RB of all-time, they better retire his number.

Yeah, maybe its good PR, and they need some, but really Franks greatest gift is durability, he is a bell cow, not a race horse. No flash, or style, or threat of a big break away run, just steady and dependable. As a long time nine fan, who has seen his share of backs tote the rock for the scarlet and gold, he never thrilled me.

You never saw the game against Seattle (2009?) where he had 2 TD runs both like 80 yards?

I loved Owens as a player but he didn't play with them long enough plus his attitude kinda ruined any chances at getting his # retired

Frank has earned it. I hope they get him locked up for one more year on the cheap and they retire it with him as an active player during the last regular season game next year. The man has been an institution for our team and the cornerstone of our offense for a very long time. He was our lone bright spot in the bad times and the at the epicenter during our resurgence. He has worn our colors with class and never given less then his best. If we could get him a ring he is a hall of famer. As it stands he is borderline and it is fitting that we honor him as an all time great even if the league may not.

To be honest I love Frank gore and will always be one of the best RBs the 9ers had in history: but at this point I see him slowing down I love gore but if he don't come back next season i wouldn't be that mad time to let the new gen shine carlos Hyde. but always will love and respect gore no matter what.

Naw, especially if we don't sign him
Jed won't retire the number of a harbaugh guy and risk having harbaugh come back for a ceremony

they should just stop doing that all together and un-retire all numbers. gonna run out of numbers sooner or later. Gonna start using alpha numeric.

Put him in the 49ers HOF, ring of honor, but retiring numbers gets to be problematic over time, especially if they expand roster size. It's why the NFL had to amend the jersey numbering rule a few years back allowing #'s 10-19 for WRs to accomodate teams where a number of WR numbers had been retired, and they discourage teams from the practice.
