Yeah, maybe its good PR, and they need some, but really Franks greatest gift is durability, he is a bell cow, not a race horse. No flash, or style, or threat of a big break away run, just steady and dependable. As a long time nine fan, who has seen his share of backs tote the rock for the scarlet and gold, he never thrilled me.

He never thrilled you??? Are you kidding me???
wow. smh.

#81 should be retired as well. Owens did so much for the 49ers. No respect.

Gore is the greatest 49ers RB of all-time, they better retire his number.

no way. john taylor has a better chance.

You sound foolish. Go look up their career numbers and tell me that. If Owens number isin't retired, then sure as hell we shouldn't retire Taylor. Not a knock against Taylor, both of their numbers should be retired if you ask me.

I loved Owens as a player but he didn't play with them long enough plus his attitude kinda ruined any chances at getting his # retired

Yeah true

career numbers dont mean anything. its what you did on that particular team. owens had better stats and probably was a better player. we'll never know with taylor as he shared touches with the GOAT. i realize owens did aswell, but that wasnt prime jerry rice, that was towards the end of the line rice. jerry has also said JT could have went almost anywhere else and been #1. additionally, you're cmoparing a dude who won 3 super bowls with the team vs a guy who never even played in a super bowl with the team. taylor also caught a sb winning td. i wouldnt retire either of them, but if i had to choose, i'd pick the guy who contributed to super bowl winning teams. not some selfish malcontent who got some good stats but never won anything.

Curious to know your guys opinion, if he retires as a 49er I expect us to do so, but what if he plays for someone else before he retires? There have been a lot of good players who's jersey we haven't seen retired.

they should...he is the leading rusher and a class act...any organization would be lucky to have him as the face of their franchise

........ If gore never thrilled you there's something wrong internally or you're not emotionally invested in the team. Gore had several games with hige runs. In 06 when we were playing the packers i remember the announcer saying it always feels like frank is gonna break one then right after he said that on our very first offensive play gore broke a 79 yarder or something like that.

If Gore or Garrison Hearst were playing on the Dynasty teams, they'd be a lock for the HOF. Gore can catch out of the backfield, so Montana/Young & even Garcia would have fed him the ball a lot more in the short passing game, maybe a little less skilled than Craig catching, but pretty darn good. He would have been just as good as a blocker on passing downs as Craig, and pretty damn close blocking down field. He has Craig's determination running with the ball, and a little better vision. And like Craig, he is someone you want on your team because of his attitude and desire to win. Gore would have SB #s to go with his great stats.

The 49ers should retire his number because he carried a team of under achievers on his back for over half his career. He has been the team's ambassador for his whole career.

that's what happens when you have a good history. Seahawks have like 3 but 4 if you count the 12th man jersey they retired bahahaha

Yep.
A good history and a LONG history . . . 39 years compared to 69 years

Don't get me wrong, Frank has gotten me pretty fired up with his tough pure will power running, but I never expect more than a 10-15 yard run, or a less than 4 yard run, he has been steady, dependable, but untimely kinda boring. I love what he has done, I just don't think of him as "dynamic" or Thrilling" I would go with dependable, and tough.
Kinda like my work truck, its dependable, and I tough, and I count on it, but it never thrills me either. A Porsche would be thrilling, a crap for carrying my tools, but thrilling. Hope that clears it up.

By 39 years we have made history and changed the game, then add a ton of HOF players before winning a super bowl...what's your excuse now ?

Hey man that #12 is sacred! Don't you dare talk sh*t about the mighty number 12!!! lol
Let's retire ALL numbers and start using emoticons.

Kaepernick is now

Vernon Davis can be

Willis can be

Our entire WR corps will be

Our secondary will be

And our coaches will wear this
