Dropback #24

3Q 2nd & 16

49ers: slight variation of the Texas concept. VD's route is designed to get the LB leaning in one direction as Gore runs the Texas route (circle route) across the LB's face.
SEA: They show a cover2 look, but I think it's cover3

Kap completes his dropback and immediately looks for Gore coming out of the backfield. Anytime I see Kap target the RB as his first read, I think it's a designed throw. Boldin and Crabs appear as though they don't look back for the ball either.

+8 yards as Gore shows some nice open field moves.

This is the second time in the game the 49ers tried to hit Gore on a quick circle route (dropback #2). Dropback#2 was definitely a designed throw.

Dropback #25
3rd & 8

There was a defensive offsides call on SEA so this was a 'free play'.
SEA: rush 3 drop 8 into coverage. Looks like cover3 shell.
49ers dial up 3 vertical routes. VD is the route in the middle of the field. Incomplete to Crabs.

Kap has always been an arm thrower because he has such a powerful sling to his delivery. It's a like a whip action. This is what allows him to do things like throw across his body while jumping such as the TD to Gore where he threw it across the field. Whether he's injured or not I can't tell. Sorry I can't provide a better answer. I'm not versed in mechanics so I don't want to go in depth into something I don't feel confident talking about.

Perhaps jonnydel can give a detailed response.

Thank thl. Appreciate the come back. You can tell I'm just over the moon on what happened. And where I see us going.

Dropback #26

3rd & 3
Similar to Dropback#20, which took place earlier on this drive, the 49ers look to create separation using misdirection. This time for Boldin.
SEA: cover1 (I think)

Kap takes the snap and tucks to run to the right. Boldin sneaks across the formation to the left side of the field.

Kap is mid windup targeting Boldin.

Dropback #27

1st & 10
49ers try to flood the left side of the field. Another play where it's a half field read as Boldin and VD do not figure into the play.

Kap completes a playfake and looks up to see this. Maxwell is running stride for stride with Crabs with a FS over the top. Miller is covered by Chancellor, a very lanky defender. Both of those routes (Crabs, Miller) pushes the zone defenders on that side of the field up the field. This earns Hyde some good space to work his route.

Kap targets Miller vs Chancellor. If Kap puts the ball at the yellow X, Hyde has room to make a play. Too aggressive with the throw. This is 1st down.

Incomplete pass.

It sure looks like they saw a mismatch on film and tried to take a shot here on 1st down. Maybe the thinking was that since when they split Miller out wide, they don't always target him (just the opposite...use him to set up another). This time they took a shot and unfortunately it was well covered.

It feels like I've been waiting over a year to see this play brought back.

This sort of play should be run 4-5 times a game. You have a qb with great legs and I'm positive that run action is gonna be effective damn near every time. This should be a staple money go-to play that's an easy completion. Add spider y banana with this and now you have a set of two staple plays.

Call this s**t on first down to exploit our heavy run bias and your looking at seconds and short.

It's should be easy, if they take a man to cover the crosser, now you have one less defender attacking the run. It's win-win IMO.

2nd & 10
Inside Zone
Hyde run for +3

Dropback #28
3rd & 7

49ers: Spot play (triangle stretch) to Kap's right. To Kap's left is a basic clear out (Gore) for SJ to work his quick Out.
SEA crowds the line of scrimmage to give the look of a blitz. Cover1.

SEA comes with a 4 man rush, but the crowded LoS causes confusion. There is an unblocked rusher.

The Spot play works to get Boldin open. SJ shows his quickness and creates major separation on his CB.

It's too bad this play never had a chance. Kap could have looked right or left and found a target.

Sacked for -3

Not sure what the protection call was, but an unblocked rusher on a 4 man rush is always weak an falls on the Oline.

I may stop doing all the dropbacks unless anyone wants to see a particular play. The next time the 49ers get the ball it's 19-3 with 10 minutes left in the game. The 2nd INT was dumb and will just make you want to suplex your goldfish.

Here's a palette cleanser.

You know...there JUST might be an opening...

You know, call me crazy, but it looks like Hyde may have blasted Sherman in the face with his knee...ON PURPOSE there. LOL
