Just speculating on this one but there was another vantage point shown during the game (IIRC) in 4Q where it showed this play from behind CK so you could get an even better feel for what happened. Clearly, the route was not a full go-route and was a curl, hence why CK is still throwing to Lloyd WITH Lloyd trailing Sherman the whole way. But from the back vantage point, the ball is already in the air as Lloyd is breaking out (head not turned around). It's probably on accuracy (long throw) but perhaps CK thought Lloyd would just drop down there vs. curl out to the sidelines...maybe a miscommunication or wrong route or right route and poor throw (poor mental decision + poor accuracy). It's hard to tell. Then again, his accuracy too was on-off all game as well.

I think it was just a inaccurate throw. Even is Lloyd doesn't curl towards the sideline the throw is still to far inside and at the very least Lloyd is able to play defense. Could have been the wrong route though. I don't think it was a poor mental decision b/c the guy was open just a bad throw. Lloyd trailing makes me believe it was supposed to be a throw to Lloyd's outside shoulder. t

That would be my best guess as well (albeit speculative). It's not like CK/Harbaugh are going to throw Lloyd under the bus even if it was the wrong route. I only bring up the wrong route possibility b/c Lloyd is still new to our offense and I think, he alone, only had 3 catches over the past 4 games coming in?

Yea it's a real possibility that it was the wrong route. And you right about JH he never throws hie players under the bus. I remember early in the season is seemed like CK and Lloyd just didn't have that chemistry yet. Could be still lingering a bit.

Dropback #10

2nd & 20
SEA: Gives a cover1 man presnap look as if they are coming with a blitz by placing two LBs over the A gaps.
49ers: Because VD is uncovered at the snap, 49ers will try to hit him on a quick Curl to make it a manageable 3rd down situation. Sucker concept to Kap's right.

The two LBs over the A gaps back off. One of them shades over to VD. Standard 4 man rush - it's cover3. Thinking it's a blitz, Kap takes a 1 step dropback and looks left to VD who was uncovered at the snap of the ball.

Kap is mid windup targeting VD's curl.

Because the DL sees a quick 1 step drop by Kap, the DL gets his hand up. Pass is batted at the line of scrimmage. Incomplete.

Harsh Critic cap on: Once Kap saw that it was not a blitz, he could have gathered himself and looked over to the Sucker concept to see SJ open. Still, the line stunt by the left side of SEA's defensive line got through (thanks MMartin) so I'm not sure Kap could have gotten a good throw off.

On 3rd & 20, the 49ers run Gore for +1 yard. This isn't because the 49ers think Gore can pick up the first down by running 20 yards. It's because they don't want to have a turnover at this part of the field by forcing a downfield throw. I've listened to local radio the past couple days and callers call in screaming at the 3rd and 20 run play. smh.

Punt.
Sorry dude. I tried to read this but i threw up.
Damn CK missed a lot of underneath guys, wide open this game, didn't even realize it watching it live.

I think five receiving options is too much. The patterns are a joke. Is this Pop Warner?

We should be using at least two of them as crossers/screeners to free up the hot reads.

It's possible. But a moot point now. That seemed like a better route for Boldin or Crabtree b/c of their timing and b/c it wasn't a full go-route like we ran with Boldin which was easily covered up. Probably the wrong personnel IMHO.
There's not a huge need to break down the play, but when you guys were re-watching the game, did earl thomas twist Gore's ankle? I think it's in the 3rd or 4th quarter and the play might have got wiped out by a penalty. Don't know what happened but Gore gets right up in Thomas' face after the play. My first thought was it looked like Thomas was being dirty.

Any insight?

5th Drive of the game

Dropback #11
2Q 1st & 10
49ers: (sigh) another play that sends 4 WRs deep.
SEA: cover1

Kap takes the snap and first looks to his right at Boldin/Crabs. The blue boxes and lines show the man coverage assignments. Orange is the QB spy.

Just as he looks left, he gets pressure in his face.

Kap escapes the pocket while out running the spy (orange) due to MMartin chipping the spy. The LB on Hyde reacts to Kap for a split second and is now trailing Hyde by a good 5 yards. Kap is mid windup targeting Hyde who has lots of room from Boldin/Crabs clearing the area.

+16 yards. Biggest gain of the game for the offense.

I saw that. The replay showed Thomas twisting Gore's ankles while rolling.

Gore got up to complain and Thomas ignored it and shrugged him off. Thomas knew he f**ked up.

SEA is full of dirty tactics like their s**t bag coach.

That's exactly what happened. That play was in the 3Q. I'll get to it as I chronologically go through the game.

What pissed me off the most was that Bevell used the EXACT same game plan I would have used AGAINST them. All I can do now is

It is what it is and there WILL be some big changes going forward. I trust Baalke. I pray those changes are great going forward. All we need is an average offense (22.8 yards a game). That's it!

As to your X's and O's. I love the ideas that are formulated in here...they are hard to even play Devil's Advocate against!

The most mind numbing thing of it all is the defensive effort we have wasted. You give this defense to our 1992 or 1998 squad and they go 15-1 or better and stroll to a title.

Don't press that painful memory button.

This was just a sweet houdini act...and like you said, these backs were open all game long b/c Seattle never covers them (why would they?). But I just have to laugh at the very end. Is that Boldin coming back to light someone up? LMAO!!! Love that guy!
How bad has everything gone this year? Even NT is crashing daily!!!!
