4-4 this season
let's do it again.

my faith is restored.

I don't think we were 6-4 were we ?

Who remembers? Who cares.

We are 4-4 and have eight games to go.

Every year is different. This year sure has been different than what was anticipated.

i mean we had to be 6 and 4 at some point...he is right...but, I dont think we were ever 4-4...

It's way different this year. Our offensive line is in real trouble. Every single person got beat by their man, either they're assignments are off, or they just flat out can't play. Whatever it is, I don't think we fix it and make it to the playoffs. We'll be lucky to go 9-7. I see 8-8...maybe...

A loss next week against the Saints should be the nail in the coffin.
The 49ers' window is not closed. Hell, this season is not even over. It's not out of the realm of possibility at all that they go something like 7-1 or 6-2 to end the season and sneak into the playoffs. Remember, we won 6 in a row last year to end the season. They're walking on razor-thin ice right now, but the season is not over, let alone the "window". We're still easily one of the most talented teams in the NFL.

We lost to the Rams, at home. What makes you think we're going to all of a sudden start playing better? Time to face reality, this team is not a playoff caliber team this year.

look the team has not been eliminated so no the season is not over per say. you reference last season, well what happened? we were a wild card team who had to play in -40 then go to carolina and then go to another road game in nfc title game. its just too damn hard to expect to win 3 road playoff games in row. the league barely ever schedules teams for 3 roadies in a row during the season and theres a reason for that. there is something to be said for sticking it out and not believing its over until its over. i get that angle but at this point in time making the playoffs is nothing. look at the trend, we used to win div and get byes under harbs, now we hope for wild card and the honor to play road playoff games. this team is trending down and thats why ppl think the window has closed.

Well, for starters, the team is on track to add some major talent. Aldon Smith next week, Patrick Willis soon, and also Navarro Bowman at the end of this month. Even if the defense has not been the problem, that's still a major infusion of talent that will strengthen the defense even more.

A loss at home the Rams is disheartening, but the way the game ended does not happen very often. There's the good chance that Kaepernick scores if there wasn't the botched exchange, and at worst, they kick a gimme field goal and take it to overtime.

Do you remember last year in week 8? The Seahawks (the team that went on to win the Super Bowl) came within a goal line stand of losing to these same St. Louis Rams (granted that was a road game).
What about last week on MNF? The Cowboys (who looked like the class of the NFC) lost to the 2-win Redskins (at home).

Look, I don't expect the 49ers to make the playoffs. We've got some tough games ahead, including two against Seattle, hosting the Cardinals and Chargers, and a tough trip this week to New Orleans. However, the season is still far from over -- they could catch fire and do some real damage. And, even if we miss the playoffs, I hardly think the window is "closed".

halfway through the season and you dont expect to make the playoffs, but cant acknowledge the window is closed or at least closing? theres guys on this team who will be around for future seasons, but theres a number of guys who wont be including probably the coach. the window on this group has closed or is closing at the very least. i'm a detroit pistons fan and i went through this like 5 years ago after pistons had a great 6 year run. you never want to admit its happening, but after it does you're able to go back and see all of the tell tale signs were there. thats what we're going through right now, fans clinging to the chance its not real and will turn around, when the far more likely scenario is that this group of players is infact in decline as a unit. it sucked when i went trhough it with my pistons and my only saving grace was that we did indeed win a title in 2004. something this group cant say.

This. Hold a team to 13 points and walk away with a loss? Come on...

Hence the line of "even if the defense has not been the problem, that's still a major infusion of talent that will strengthen the defense even more."

All this s**t is going to negatively affect the re-signing of Harbs. All this couldn't have happened at a worst time for him.

prolly a good thing at this point.
oh he's fine. he cant pretty much get a job anywhere, one non-playoff season isnt going to ruin anything for him given how the first 3 seasons left. i got ridiculed for saying i didnt think he was the type of guy who stays too long at one place. everyone fired back with every job he took was a promotion. that gets put to the test this offseason. his usual 4 years or so run has come up in sf and its decision time. i dont expect him back and i've also said i think some of his people are responsible for leaking some info (whether its true or not doesnt matter) about him maybe not being here after this year.

I don't think the window is closing. That doesn't make me a homer or delusional. I believe we have one of the most talented rosters in the league (a sentiment shared by many professional analysts [uh oh, how long before someone replies to this and responds with air quotes "experts"]), and I believe we will continue to be one of the most talented teams moving forward, at least for the foreseeable future. We have a pipeline of strong talent on the horizon, and Baalke has shown a great eye for acquiring talent.

It wouldn't surprise me if the 49ers finished the season 6-2 and finished 10-6 overall on the year. I am not saying I expect it to happen, but it's totally within the realm of possibility. Could you see the Jags going 6-2 to finish the year? Could you see the Rams going 6-2 to finish the year? Could you see the Redskins going 6-2 to finish the year? etc...

We've been hit by an inordinate number of injuries this year (for example, Martin was starting because of a season-ending injury to Kilgore; Iupati missed our previous game because of a concussion; Boone missed all of training camp and preseason because of a holdout; Davis has been battling a hamstring all season, and we've had to endure to start the year). The defense has been missing countless starters. Injuries are part of the game, but this year I believe we've been affected more than most teams.

We lost yesterday, so that automatically means that everybody is losing their minds today (not saying you are, but just in general). Par for the course. Missing the playoffs and "the window is still open" are not mutually exclusive thoughts. If we were losing because of a lack of talent I'd be concerned. We're not. We're losing because of injuries and poor execution.

Again, let me be clear: I'm not delusional -- we will probably miss the playoffs. But you never know. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we snuck in.

I feel bad for Justin Smith and Gore. They were so close to getting SB rings and now things are just falling apart.
