I believe we have one of the most talented rosters in the league (a sentiment shared by many professional analysts [uh oh, how long before someone replies to this and responds with air quotes "experts"]), and I believe we will continue to be one of the most talented teams moving forward, at least for the foreseeable future. We have a pipeline of strong talent on the horizon, and Baalke has shown a great eye for acquiring talent.
halfway through the season and you dont expect to make the playoffs, but cant acknowledge the window is closed or at least closing? theres guys on this team who will be around for future seasons, but theres a number of guys who wont be including probably the coach. the window on this group has closed or is closing at the very least. i'm a detroit pistons fan and i went through this like 5 years ago after pistons had a great 6 year run. you never want to admit its happening, but after it does you're able to go back and see all of the tell tale signs were there. thats what we're going through right now, fans clinging to the chance its not real and will turn around, when the far more likely scenario is that this group of players is infact in decline as a unit. it sucked when i went trhough it with my pistons and my only saving grace was that we did indeed win a title in 2004. something this group cant say.
It wouldn't surprise me if the 49ers finished the season 6-2 and finished 10-6 overall on the year. I am not saying I expect it to happen, but it's totally within the realm of possibility. Could you see the Jags going 6-2 to finish the year? Could you see the Rams going 6-2 to finish the year? Could you see the Redskins going 6-2 to finish the year? etc...
We've been hit by an inordinate number of injuries this year (for example, Martin was starting because of a season-ending injury to Kilgore; Iupati missed our previous game because of a concussion; Boone missed all of training camp and preseason because of a holdout; Davis has been battling a hamstring all season, and we've had to endure to start the year). The defense has been missing countless starters. Injuries are part of the game, but this year I believe we've been affected more than most teams.
We lost yesterday, so that automatically means that everybody is losing their minds today (not saying you are, but just in general). Par for the course. Missing the playoffs and "the window is still open" are not mutually exclusive thoughts. If we were losing because of a lack of talent I'd be concerned. We're not. We're losing because of injuries and poor execution.
Again, let me be clear: I'm not delusional -- we will probably miss the playoffs. But you never know. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we snuck in.
young guys who havent been a part of the previous 3 years who will become players on this team are apart of the next window and not the current one IMO. by window closing, i mean next yr probably with a different HC and some of the main stays of the past like gore, davis, justin, etc maybe not being around. it will be filled with new faces. as far as o-line injuries go, seattle won the super bowl last season playing a decent portion of the season without 3 of their starting 5 o-lineman and 2 of them were their only guys up front who've made pro bowls before (unger and okung) i dont think our injuries are anything worse then they had on their o-line and certainly not as bad as the 2010 packers who were ravaged and still won it all. my point? injuries are an issue if you let them be,.
Didn't this team learn from our heartaches? Didn't these coaches learn? This sucks man.
